Snow peas are pretty healthy and they are so easy to prepare you should be adding this vegetable to your weekly list of vegetables to eat. I bet you don’t even have that list – you should. In a pan with some olive oil saute some snow peas with lemon zest, your favorite spices, some chopped onion, parsley and some sesame seeds. It doesn’t get easier than that.  Some people like their snow peas crunchy and some people like them a little softer. We don’t judge here – as long as you eat them all.

Steaming chicken is new to me but Dr Fitness seems to like it.For this recipe you’ll need 3 1/2 pounds of chicken, some vinegar, sweet sherry, lemon juice, sake, ginger root, garlic, scallions, sesame seeds.

In a steamer throw in your chicken. Now when you fill your pot with water throw in your sake and steam that chicken for at least an hour – maybe as long as 90 minutes. Bring it to a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer for the rest of the time. In a sauce pan throw in all the other ingredients to make a sauce. When it’s all done pour the sauce over the chicken and serve.

Try this natural cure for snoring. Sleep on your side. This works especially well for thinner people. When you sleep on your back you are more likely to cause the breathing problem that causes snoring so make the move to sleeping on your side to see if this helps you snore less. It doesn’t matter which side you sleep on either – left or right side worked equally as well.

Did you know that you can be using some of those kitchen gadgets you have filling a junk drawer in new and unusual ways?

  1. That egg  slicer that you haven’t used since last Easter can be used for slicing up strawberries or grapes.
  2. Did you know that by putting a straw into a glass ketchup bottle will make that ketchup easily flow right out?
  3. What about using tin foil as a handy funnel when you fold it up just right?

Are you a back sleeper, a side sleeper or a stomach sleeper? How you sleep can be affecting your health and the amount of sleep you’re getting each night.

  • Stomach Sleeper – Don’t sleep on your stomach – this can cause neck and back pain and keep you up all night tossing and turning to comfortable. It is especially dangerous for you if you are overweight and you snore or suffer from sleep apnea.
  • Back Sleeper – Sleeping on your back is okay. It can prevent back and neck pain if you prop your head correctly with pillows. It can help with reflux as long as your head is higher than your stomach.
  • Side Sleeper – Sleeping on your side is optimal. Left or right doesn’t really matter. With the proper pillow fluff you can sleep through the night easily without hurting your neck and back.

This grilled chicken skewer recipe affirms the belief that everything tastes better on a skewer. Grab some chicken chunk it up. Also chunk up some zucchini, onion, red pepper and some naval oranges. Remember that before you throw skewers on the grill to soak them in water for a long time so they don’t burn up. Oil up your griull and cook the skewers for a few minutes on each side until they are done. Serve over a brown rice and you are done.

Substituting fish for ground beef to your tacos is an easy way to make tacos a healthier meal. We recommend using tilapia. For this recipe take about 6 6oz tilapia fillets and spice them up with your favorite Mexican style spices.  Now toss them on a hot grill for a few minutes on each side. Fill the soft flour tortilla with some lettuce, cucumber, radishes and lime juice – sour cream is optional.

Researchers recently asked a bunch of fitness pro’s from around the world to name the best exercise. The Fat Guy said sex. Dr Fitness guessed swimming. But we were both wrong.

Burpees or squat thrusts got an unusually large amount of votes because that exercise engages a lot of muscle groups. Squats got some votes as did interval training. But the exercise on most people’s list was….wait for it…brisk walking for 30 minutes a day 5 days a week.

The thought behind brisk walking as the best exercise was that it was easy to do, you don’t need any expensive equipment, people who walked were able to stay compliant over long periods of time, the injury risk was minimal and if you regularly walked at a brisk enough pace you can attain your fitness and weight loss goals. So go for a walk today to celebrate this discovery. What is your favorite exercise?
