Madeline Reamy/EarthShare of Georgia

Madeline Reamy has been Executive Director of EarthShare of Georgia since March 2006. EarthShare of Georgia is a non-profit that raises funds through employee giving programs for a network of more than 60 environmental organizations dedicated to conserving and protecting our air, land and water. Since coming to EarthShare of Georgia she has helped secure new employee-giving campaigns with Cox Enterprises, the Atlanta office of Accenture, Acuity Brands, Arnall Golden Gregory, Habif, Arogeti & Wynne and many others, while developing strong partnerships with business leaders for EarthShare of Georgia’s annual Earth Day events and marketing initiatives.

Her background includes more than thirty years of non-profit work, mostly in Director of Education positions and also as an Executive Director for two organizations. For fourteen of those thirty years, she worked in the environmental field, including six years as Director of Education and (for one year) as Interim Executive Director of the Chattahoochee Nature Center, one of EarthShare of Georgia’s member groups, managing a staff of twenty, developing the education programs and securing a variety of grants to help support organizational growth.

Before coming to EarthShare of Georgia, she was the Education Director with a Keep America Beautiful affiliate from 1998-2006 (Keep North Fulton Beautiful), where she was responsible for extensive community partnership development, including the creation and management of an award-winning urban forestry education program, funded by the Urban and Community Forestry program of the Georgia Forestry Commission.

She has served on the Board of Directors of Georgia’s Environmental Education Alliance as Vice President, and was President of the Georgia Association of Museums and Galleries. She is a 2004 graduate of Leadership Sandy Springs and a 2011 graduate of the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership. Madeline is the mother of two grown children, enjoys animals, hiking and painting.

Beth Bond/Southeast Green

Beth Bond, the Curator of Green and Sustainable Business News at Southeast Green, is the driving force of Southeast Green. As a Southerner, Beth was tired of hearing about everything “green” happening outside her native region which is what drove her to create the website.

Owning her own marketing company for over 15 years and working with sustainability groups, Beth knew the story of sustainability and green resided here in the Southeast. There was just no one place to tell the cohesive story of all the things that are happening in the Southeast. Since relaunching Southeast Green in September 2008, she has been establishing even broader liaisons and partners to help continue the story of green and sustainability.

Beth serves on a variety of boards and committees in the Atlanta sustainable community. In 2011 she joined the board at Georgia Interfaith Power and Light. She is the Collaboration Chair for the Green Chamber of the South. In December of 2011 the Georgia Solar Energy Association awarded Beth with a Solar Advocate of the Year award. She has also served on host committees for This is Market, River Revival, Earth Hour, Green Law’s Environmental Heroes, Gwinnett Sustainability Summit and Get the Lead Out to name a few.

Our guests today will be of particular interest to those who run businesses. Patrick Clements is the founder and CEO of bigWebApps, a respected provider of customer service portals for education and government agencies to manage customer service tickets. Also in the studio were the three partners of the largest law firm in N. Georgia, Hipes & Bell Isle, represented by the three principals, David Bell Isle, John Hipes and Karen Cashion.

Our first guest was Patrick Clements. His company recently took their years of experience providing customer service ticket software to non-profit and governmental organizations and created SherpaDesk, a brand new ticket management system for companies who are looking for a simple to use and quick to implement but powerful customer trouble ticket management system.

Patrick says that the new system draws on almost 13 years of experience with service ticket, employee and vendor management to give the business person running a service fleet, or repair crews a way to manage for customer satisfaction and efficiency.

Good customer service is more important than ever and having your teams meet their commitments with on time, one trip excellence is the difference between keeping customers and getting recommendations from customer defection.  As a fully unbundled application, you can start out and use this web based application for free. As you need more teams, tickets, etc., you can buy exactly what you need without being forced into costly packages or locked-in to terms before you can made downward adjustments.

If you have customer service or teams working on projects and you need to manage them for on time delivery, minimum cost and maximum customer satisfaction, you’ll want to try SherpaDesk. You can find it at www.sherpadesk.com and can reach Patrick Clements at patrick@bigwebapps.com or phone 404-849-7145.

The partners with Hipes & Bell Isle, Attorneys, in Alpharetta were our second guests today. David Bell Isle, John Hipes and repeat guest and firm partner, Karen Cashion, discussed business related law issues and covered the 6 things they see businesses get in trouble with that could be prevented with some prior legal counsel and agreements.

By way of introduction, David Bell Isle is the Mayor of Alpharetta and a 5th generation Atlantan. He received a BBA from the University of Georgia, an MBA from Ga. State and his JD from Georgia State College of Law.  His is an expert in closing complex real estate and other securitized transaction loans including SBA 7(a) and 504 funding.

John Hipes received his BA cum laude from Wake Forest University and his JD magna cum laude from Georgia State College of law. John has been a prominent attorney since starting out 25 years ago with Smith, Gambrell and Russell LLP then Morris Manning and & Martin before he and David formed Hipes & Bell Isle. His practice is in the area of commercial litigation, including insurance coverage, construction, real estate, employment, partnership and shareholder disputes, tort and injury law.

Karen Cashion received her BA cum laude from Emory University and her JD with high honors from Duke Law School.  She has practiced law for over 15 years representing companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 firms. Karen’s practice focuses on providing corporate and technology law services including company formation and start-up advice, litigation and risk management consulting.

Now the largest law firm in North Georgia, the partners shared their insights on where businesses continually run into problems simply because they did not avail themselves of proper legal counsel and put in place simple up-front agreements before a problem arose.

The top six problem areas they discussed were:

  1. Failing to form a corporation or other legal entity to provide protection from liability
  2. Lack of proper insurance coverage to cover claims and lawsuits and to pay for counsel
  3. Lack of internal controls, oversight, precisely written contracts, and other risk prevention measures that can prevent problems before they occur
  4. Failure to implement employment policies and to train employees on those policies
  5. Lack of document retention policies and the risk of spoliation
  6. Failing to protect confidential information and intellectual property through use of restrictive covenants (non-compete, non-solicit, confidentiality clauses)

You will not want to miss their advice and insights on how to best avoid problems in these and other areas. You certainly don’t want to make the mistake one company made on a simple $100,000 transaction that cost them $4 Million to settle! Find out what that mistake was by listening to this show, it’s a graphic lesson on the value of prevention.

David Duncan/The Entrepreneurs’ Organization

Never satisfied with the status quo, David is constantly seeking new experiences and learning opportunities. In 2004, his desire to learn and grow led him to the Atlanta chapter of The Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), a dynamic, global network of more than 8,000 business owners in 40 countries. After only one year of membership, his natural leadership ability earned David a role on the chapter’s board of directors. For the last eight years, David has served in various leadership roles at the local, regional and global levels for EO, and has been instrumental in building EO Atlanta to be one of the organization’s benchmark chapters. David was voted president of EO Atlanta for the 2007-2008 term, and then appointed as the Area Director for the Southern US, from 2008 to 2010, where he chaired the Eastern U.S. Presidents Summit, a leadership conference for EO presidents and presidents-elects. Ever the trailblazer, David went on to address problems for other small businesses in growing economic uncertainty as one of the three founding committee members of EO’s Global Policy Summit. This annual, three-day summit in Washington, D.C. focuses on opening dialogue between EO members and top political figures to discuss the needs of the entrepreneurial community. In 2010, David was appointed as a Global Communications Committee Co-Chair, where he was the principle architect in developing a comprehensive communications plan that addressed the language and cultural sensitivity needs of members in more than 40 countries, speaking 13 different languages. David accepted his second nomination as EO Atlanta’s chapter president and recently has begun his term for the 2012/2013 year.

George Mashini/Catavolt

George has been in the enterprise software field for 13 years with experience in software development, project management, professional services organizations, product management and executive management. George has helped establish Catavolt as a market innovator in the areas of hybrid cloud computing and mobile business applications by creating software that leverages existing systems along with new technology. As Chief Executive Officer, George is focused on applying new techniques and technologies in innovative ways that bring business value to Catavolt’s customers.
