In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy take a break at the FitBloggin 2011 conference while Heather Mursch from Mile 26 and More explains how busy moms train for marathons.  Marathon training takes time and busy moms like to spend time with their family so what do you do? By including your family in your training you can have the best of both worlds. Do your short runs with your family. Beginners should test their fitness level before they start training in order to prevent soreness and injuries. And everyone should make sure they have good shoes. Go to your local running store and get properly fitted.

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy take a break at the FitBloggin 2011 conference while Jess Milcetich from Run Girl Run shares how to train for races. Just wake up and go. Jess is a big believer in getting up and working out first thing in the morning. The longer you wait the less likely you will workout. So get your exercise in before you get busy with all the rest of the stuff you have going on in your life.  Even if that means setting the alarm clock a little earlier.

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy take a break at the FitBloggin 2011 conference while Rosie Battista shares why sleeping naked after 40 is the way to go. As Rosie says don’t be afraid to “Think outside the box.”  She wants you to make each meal as “naked” as possible. That means eating foods in their most natural state. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Don’t buy food in a box or can or any food that has a label on it or has ingredients that you can’t pronounce.  This way you can build your healthiest and sexiest body. When you start doing that then you have the confidence to sleep naked and present your best self.

We opened the show with a recap of our FitBloggin experience. It was awesome. Big shout out to Roni Noone and all the other fitbloggers we got to hang out with. Learned a lot about blogging watched a lot of people do fitness stuff. And had an all around great time. We were honored to be the keynote speakers this year and look forward to doing more stuff (maybe a live remote broadcast) with them next year.

Our first guest was someone we met at FitBloggin No Meat Athlete Matt Frazier. He is a vegan ultramarathon runner.Anyone who can shave over 100 minutes from his marathon time is a beast and this guy can do it without eating meat. That Scott Pilgrim movie was right those vegans are like superheroes. He’s got a new book coming out soon that shows you how to train for a half marathon and his first book helps vegetarians train for marathons.

Next up we had on Seth Goldman TeaEO of Honest Tea Dr Fitness’ new favorite beverage the half tea half lemonade lightly sweetened drink. Honest Tea wins awards for being green, for being healthy, for being organic and fair trade. But it is also delicious. If you are having a hard time finding it – it’s probably because Dr Fitness buys them all whenever he finds them. Honest Tea can be found in more and more stores but if you can’t find them near you Seth says to talk to the store manager and ask for it.

We closed the show with Shelley Woodworth from the Vail Valley Foundation and the Teva Mountain Games Vail which is happeneing June 2-5. This event is cool because it pits amateurs with pros going head to head in biking, running, white water and bouldering events. Throw in some free concerts, a little art and a bunch of free gear and no wonder more than 40,000 people will be there this year.

Andy Lipman, who has cystic fibrosis, is 37 years old, the current median life expectancy for people with the disease. However, Lipman’s life expectancy now far exceeds the expected.

In 2000, Lipman established an annual charity softball tournament benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  The event honors the memory of his sister, who died of cystic fibrosis in infancy.  Lipman’s experiences dealing with CF inspired him to write Alive at 25:  How I’m Beating Cystic Fibrosis in 2001.

Lipman, a certified Toastmaster speaker, was chosen as the finale conference speaker of the Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities Center at CDC. He was selected to run with the Olympic Torch for the 2002 Olympic Games for his work with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and received the Excellence in Community Service Award from the NBC affiliate in Atlanta in 2006. More recently, he was interviewed for a piece called Living with a Disability on WABE radio, and featured in articles in the “Dunwoody Crier”, “Jewish Georgian”, and “400 Edition” magazine.

Lipman’s novel, A Superhero Needs No Cape, was published in 2006. Centered on a boy’s dream of playing major league baseball, the story is an uplifting message to young adults and teenagers about the power of hard work, determination and positive attitude.

His recently completed the manuscript for The Drive at 35, which is scheduled for release later this year, chronicles his journey of discovery in the methods for beating cystic fibrosis mentally as well as physically, and shares his vision for living positively, contributing to the community at large and attaining seemingly elusive goals.
