Laurie is the creator of the Aligned at Work® Model, an integrated look at work and life and a recipe for a life well-lived. Disengaged team members and unwanted turnover is extremely costly, in money spent, productivity lost, and emotional stress. Aligned at Work® is your go-to source for leadership training, consulting, and leadership coaching.

The Aligned at Work® system saves thousands in hard dollar costs for recruiting, onboarding, training, and retaining new team members, including rampup time to full effectiveness. Great leaders create high-performing workplaces through Alignment and Connection. The Aligned at Work® Model brings all the qualities of Alignment and Connection into one place. Vocation and values, relationships and support networks, fnancial skills and mindset, well-being, and spirit/authenticity of self — it’s all part of integrating life and work. This experience-based model, backed by research, helps Aligned Leaders understand that they create Aligned Workplaces where people are engaged and motivated.

During her corporate career in companies large and small, Laurie recognized that people were searching for meaning in their work and a life outside of the office. As CEO of Aligned at Work®, she works with companies who understand that their leaders are the ones who create a healthy, human-centered environment where they and their teams thrive. Her companion book “Aligned Workplaces: Integrating Life and Work – A Practical Guide for Leaders and Teams” walks team members through the model, then provides helpful Leader Guides for running meetings about the 5 elements of success. BRX Pro Tip: Wacky Deals Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] Welcome back to Business RadioX Studio Partner Pro Tips. Lee, in this episode, let’s talk about wacky deals.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:08] Sure. A wacky deal in our language is anything that isn’t — it might be a trade, or it might not be for cash, or at a discounted rate. This can happen in lots of different ways. We’ve had in here an opportunity to get gift cards from different restaurants, different restaurant groups, bringing food, things like that. That, I consider a wacky deal. We’ve had gyms offer us memberships for our family in exchange for mentions or hosting events at their space. I know some of our studio sponsors have worked on deals where they show up at these events that are highly sought after in exchange for doing some work there, either man on the street or in official remote. Any other thing pops into your mind, Stone?

Stone Payton: [00:00:51] Well, I was going to say one of my favorite is some of these local on-site venues is just good for us to be seen there anyway. So, we’re going to absorb it maybe as a marketing cost. But then, as soon as I nail it and lock that down, then, sometimes, I will go out and shop for, sort of, a one-time, I call project sponsors, just for that local event because they want the halo effect of being associated with that. For me, that’s in the wacky deal bucket.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:19] Right. And we’ve gotten a ton of free stuff. It’s like Snoop Dogg says, “You’ve got to get your free game.” You got to work your free game.

BRX Pro Tip: Social Media Amplification Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] Welcome back to Business RadioX Studio Partner Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you, Lee, a phrase that you and I throw around quite a bit is “social media amplification.” What do we mean by that? How can we deliver that?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:16] I think it’s important to offer, especially to your clients, kind of a roadmap of what could be done. This is kind of probably a case of the cobbler’s shoes, a cobbler having no shoes, but we’re not the best at this. But I like to recommend that before the show that the client kind of promotes, “Hey, next week, I have blah, blah, blah coming on,” and then do some social media around that. You can go out before the show and ask your social media followers, “Hey, I have this person on. Do you have any questions that I should ask them?” or you can tell them, “Hey, listen in at this URL at this certain time.”

Lee Kantor: [00:00:57] I think it’s important during the show to have a you or somebody on your team say, “Hey, we’re on live now. Listen to blah, blah, blah.” After the show, “In case you missed it, here was the episode you missed where they talked about this.” These are all opportunities you can be leveraging before, during, and after your show, that kind of just keeps the conversation going, and it provides more value for your sponsors to show that you are trying your best to get the word out about their work and the show’s work.

Stone Payton: [00:01:27] Speaking of the cobbler’s kids not having shoes, I’m reminded of a tendency that I sometimes have. Something worked so well, I just decide to quit doing it. But we’ve had some success. And I think we need to pick it back up of doing like the soundcheck, doing Facebook Live, or some kind of social media-

Lee Kantor: [00:01:43] Or LinkedIn Live?

Lee Kantor: [00:01:43] LinkedIn Live, yeah. For the soundcheck, keeping it kind of distinct from the radio show, but that generates a lot of buzz and is a high-perceived value for both the people in the room and the people underwriting the shows.

Susan says, “Entrepreneurship is in my genetics- helped my grandmother bake pies for area restaurants and worked in our family restaurant at age 7. I supported myself through high school by painting anything on blue jeans and sold artwork while managing our family restaurant through my high school years. Married at age 20, a guy from the next small town in Ohio. We started a horseshoeing business in the winter and no one shoe’s their horses in the winter he didn’t know what to do.  I told my husband to drive around the countryside and everywhere he saw a horse stop and give them a card. It actually worked.  At age 20 we moved to Missouri and started the horseshoeing business again plus a horseshoeing school! While living on a cattle ranch, with milk goats, and a large garden we heated our home with wood and built a home with logs and natural resources from the ranch. I also had an antique business because of all the antiques in the barns where we went to shoe horses. After 10 years of living on the ranch we moved to the St Louis area and I went back into the restaurant/night club management. I joined a company and went around the United States opening 50/60’s themed nightclubs. In 1987 I moved to Tucson where my mother had moved and started in Business to Business sales. 1989 I started in Real Estate Sales and became an owner partner in a property management company. I sold that in 1998 moved to Michigan and started working in advertising sales at the Daily newspaper owned by Gannett and transferred to Tucson in 2007 working for the Arizona Daily Star, then  managing the Saddlebag Notes and then left the corporate world starting the Oro Valley Voice and two years ago launching the Tucson Smart Shopper after the SavvyShopper left Tucson. In between, I joined two network marketing companies selling my downline and the other after reaching a nice level it went out of business.

I cannot remember any time that I have not been doing some kind of business for myself or for others. I love helping people”.

Business info: The Oro Valley Voice happened because a lot of my clients thought that I should start a community paper for just Oro Valley as it was really growing and they had to buy advertising in several publications. I put a business plan together and just did it. I had no loans, partners or really any money but many unbelievable things happened. I was approached by a person who had worked for the Savvy Shopper for many years and he said they were leaving town, we had many of the same clients and he said no one ever said anything negative about me and wanted to know if I would consider publishing the Tucson Smart Shopper 120,000 monthly magazines mailed 10 months out of the year. I got quotes and we started it. I have a lot of empathy.

After a long career as an executive in the Aerospace and Defense business and being a Mom, I recognize the dedication, time and endurance it takes to be successful both at home and working in a competitive industry.  My personal experience at Fuchsia provided me the understanding that each of us needs and deserves a break from our busy lives to take time to relax and do something that makes us feel beautiful.  After my personal experience, I couldn’t wait to bring this business to Tucson for my friends to enjoy.

Fuchsia was built and designed to bring delightful and relaxing services to a larger population who had been left out of the spa market.  Beauty doesn’t have to come at a high price and Fuchsia’s goal is to provide the most current, results-based techniques in skin and body care along with with quality products, professional and passionate staff in an energetic, warm and welcoming environment. We use and sell high-end skincare products such as Eminence, Image and our own Fuchsia line.  My goal is to provide every Fuchsia guest a wonderful, high-quality experience at an affordable price.
