Jennifer Sherer is the Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute at Georgia State University. The Institute is focused on expanding an innovative and entrepreneurial culture inclusive of all students, faculty and staff at Georgia State as well as engaging alumni and the external community to advance innovative ideas, create new enterprises and transform existing businesses and organizations. Jennifer’s entire professional career has been dedicated to driving innovation and supporting entrepreneurs. Prior to joining Georgia State, Jennifer was the Vice President of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the Metro Atlanta Chamber. There she led the launch of numerous initiatives to promote collaboration in the innovation community, support high growth entrepreneurs and elevate Atlanta’s status as a globally recognized innovation hub. Earlier in her career, Jennifer served as the Executive Director of Southeast BIO (SEBIO), a regional non-profit organization that fosters the growth of the life sciences industry in the Southeastern U.S. SEBIO’s mentoring programs, designed to prepare entrepreneurs for fundraising and cultivate new start-ups from universities, have benefited over 200 companies in the Southeast. Companies participating in SEBIO activities have gone on to raise over $2.5 billion in public and private funding. After finishing graduate school, Jennifer joined the Office of Technology Transfer at Emory University as a licensing associate. She was responsible for assessing intellectual assets for advancement, developing marketing strategies, and generating commercialization plans for technologies generated by university researchers. She also aided faculty members in developing strategic partnerships with industry. Jennifer serves on the Emory University Center for Ethics Advisory Board, the Southeast BIO Executive Committee and is a graduate of Leadership Gwinnett. She earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics at the University of Virginia and a B.S. in Biochemistry at Lehigh University. She was also a collegiate athlete as a member of the Lehigh University Women’s Basketball team. Jennifer lives in Suwanee, Georgia with her husband, Todd, and has three stepdaughters and twin boys.

Jackie Davis is the Associate Director for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ENI) at Georgia State University where she contributes to the Institute’s vision, strategy, marketing and co-curricular efforts. In her tenure, Jackie has helped to grow Georgia State’s entrepreneurship programs beyond the classroom. She established and oversees the planning and facilitation of 60+ events a year including: co-curricular workshops, guest speakers, business consultations, university-wide competitions, and several co-sponsored events with notable industry partners. Today, with a Major, Minor and MBA Concentration in Entrepreneurship, as well as three interdisciplinary degree programs (Social Entrepreneurship, Media Entrepreneurship and Biomedical Enterprise) ENI enrolls 600+ students a semester. Jackie is also the advisor for the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (Georgia State Chapter) and the E-House Living Learning Community. She also assisted in the development of the LaunchGSU Student Incubator, a 3,000 sq. ft., idea-stage incubator designed to foster an entrepreneurial and innovative culture across campus. Prior to her role with ENI, Ms. Davis supported the development of signature experience programs including, the WomenLead Center and the Advancement of Women – Women’s Mentoring Program. As an intrapreneur, Jackie enjoys building signature programs that support entrepreneurship, women, and economic empowerment. Ms. Davis holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing, a Master of Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and International Business, all from Georgia State University. She lives in West Midtown with her husband, three children, and dog.

Kristy West is a Certified Applied Improv Practitioner, Speaker, and Founder of BraveSpace. She has been performing, studying and teaching improv for almost two decades. Along with her improv experience, Kristy spent over 15 years in B2B Sales and Corporate Training. Today, she blends her unique experience in improvisational comedy, corporate sales, and training to help teams and individuals practice critical communication skills and team collaboration in a brave space using the methodology of improvisation. After spending many years witnessing first hand how work environments and teams can suffer when there is a lack of human connection, interpersonal skills, civility and collaboration, Kristy’s improv and professional life collided (in a good way). Jewish Family and Children’s Service is a non-profit, non-sectarian 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to strengthening the community through quality behavioral health social services, and primary medical care to children, families and adults. Each year they serve over 47,000 people of all faiths here in the Valley of the Sun, helping them to strengthen families, resolve conflicts, and cope with everyday living.
Our discussion focused on integrating mental and physical healthcare and how treating the whole self can increase productivity and engagement as well as reduce stigma and create a positive workplace.
