Passion for Patients™ provides on-site, customized, and highly-interactive training for staff in medical practices, behavioral health clinics, senior living communities, and small hospitals. The Workshops focus on interpersonal and communication skills— this is known as Medical Etiquette.

Gina Ore has enjoyed more than 25 years of successful fundraising and relationship engagement. She has worked with medical professionals, generous donors, and dedicated volunteers who have supported healthcare, medical research, and human services.

WHY BEST OF HEALTH?

I am a Physician Assistant who has been caring for patients for over 20 years and Family Practice (cradle to grave) is my specialty.

Following the footsteps of three generations of family practice physicians (my father, grandfather and great grandfather) this was a natural and genetic calling that I do not regret.

Given this, I have a unique perspective and it’s time to share that perspective through Ask the PA. As a health care provider, teacher, business owner, patient, and advocate for my family and friends throughout the years, it has been painfully apparent there are disconnects within the current state of health care in the US and throughout the world. It can be confusing and frankly very scary.

It is my goal though this series, Best of Health, to bring people together that are passionate about their roles in the business of health care… and yes, whether or not you want to hear that it’s a business, it is — and that’s the fact. I will introduce to you great, dedicated practitioners and people with a passion for getting the word out about their personal journeys and causes. I will provide information about navigating through a confusing system, asking the right questions and share ways for saving money and time along the way.

It’s time to create change by partnering, empowering, and focusing on the patient, their families and their providers of care. It’s time for you to take the driver’s seat rather than leave your health care solely in the hands of entities such as insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industry.

ABOUT BARB

Barb is a Physician Assistant (PA) and a primary care provider with a passion for education and advocacy. Prior to becoming a Physician Assistant (PA), Barb was an accomplished musician and teacher. In 1992, Barb made the conscious decision to leave teaching and her musical career in pursuit of a career in medicine. She graduated from AT Still University’s first PA class in 1997 with a Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.

Barb has spent several years working in clinics and family practices. Currently, Barb works for Premise Health at Insight Enterprises in Tempe, AZ as a solo practitioner providing primary care to employees and families on campus. She was also a partner in Renaissance Medical Group and Renaissance Medical Properties in Chandler and Maricopa, AZ and had a dual role of Chief Operations Officer and practicing PA for 14 years.

Along with being a PA, Barb is the author of the book Surviving the “Business” of Healthcare, Knowledge is Power! She is a certified Medical Professional Legal Consultant and Patient Advocate, speaker and influencer for change in healthcare for the patient, provider and family members. Barb is also certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants and is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

In her spare time, she loves to travel, maintaining an active lifestyle that includes running, biking, swimming. She loves to spend time outdoors with her family and friends, whether it’s walking on the beach or hiking in the desert.

Arizona Fun Services is a year-round locally owned party, costume and event rental shop. They rent & sell costumes. They sell costume accessories, wigs, hats, masks, and theatrical makeup. They sell themed party goods, balloons and rent helium tanks.

They rent booths & games, cotton candy, sno-cone, popcorn, and frozen drink machines. They rent inflatables, dunk tanks, hi-striker, bingo cages, raffle drums, & spinning wheels.

They do full-service carnivals, company picnics, casino parties, church festivals, and private back-yard parties or you can rent individual items and pick them up. They have a back room full of prizes you can use for giveaways, loot bags or incentives in your classroom.

Fun Services is the originator of the Santa’s Secret Shop/Holiday Gift Shop program, the in-school shopping program for elementary schools during the holiday season.

Gwen Gustafson has been at Arizona Fun Services for 33 years. Gwen moved to Arizona with her parents in 1986 to help them run the business. Gwen took over the business with her business partner Tariq Chaney in 2010. Gwen is an active member in the Tempe Chamber of Commerce and LocalFirst Arizona.

Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University is a management school that offers bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, executive education programs, and MicroMasters in global management. Since its inception in 1946, Thunderbird has focused exclusively on educating global leaders in the intricacies of international business and management.

Now a unit of the Arizona State University Knowledge Enterprise, Thunderbird is strengthened by the resources of America’s largest and most innovative public university. Thunderbird offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees as well as executive education in locations around the globe, with its main campus in Phoenix, Arizona and offices in Geneva, Dubai, and Moscow.

Beginning in the 1980’s, Dr. Eileen Borris had been on the frontlines of forgiveness from the personal to the political. As a political psychologist, Dr. Borris helps to rebuild war torn countries such as Afghanistan, Liberia, Nigeria, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Israel and the Occupied Territories. Her work focuses on reconciling centuries old conflicts and finding ways to forgive. She understands the deep-down psychological issues surrounding conflicts and the healing of conflicts.

Dr. Borris develops her in the trenches perspectives concerning the personal side of pain by being a consultant. Most recently she has been in Afghanistan where she conducted a train the trainer program empowering women by teaching persuasion to give the women political voice through the Thunderbird for Good Program at Thunderbird: The School of Global management at Arizona State University. She has worked in Indonesia for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) developing conflict resolution and reconciliation programs. She has consulted with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) developing specialized training programs for women in peacebuilding in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Dr. Borris has been invited to propose trauma healing programs throughout Liberia through the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP). She works in organizations and the nonprofit sector in the United States to resolve disagreements and enhance work cultures. Dr. Borris has also spoken in front of the United Nations General Assembly on forgiveness and the healing of nations.

Since 1985 Dr. Borris began her work as a clinical psychologist in private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona where she counsels people having marital difficulties as well as treating people with anxiety and depression. She uses mindfulness approaches in her work and helps people with issues around forgiveness. Dr. Borris conducts “Finding Forgiveness” workshops, in which people are enabled to make better decisions from the place of understanding and wisdom rather than emotional pain and has written “Finding Forgiveness: A 7 Step Program for Letting Go of Anger and Bitterness” a self-help book published by McGraw-Hill.

The books focus on the profound impact of forgiveness on multiple levels ranging from individual’s personal lives to the resolution of long-standing international conflicts. “Finding Forgiveness” was a finalist for “Books for a Better Life Award” and the winner for “Best Books for 2007” award in the self-help category. “Finding Forgiveness” was one of the books chosen for the National Press Club 30th annual book fair, a very prestigious event.

John Liffiton was born into a military family and thus moved all over the world. This instilled in him a sort of wander-lust, which has taken him to 50+ countries and four continents. He has not only visited numerous countries, but has also worked overseas for half his life; working in: England, France, Switzerland, Zaire, and he spent thirteen years working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

John has a BSc in Anthropology and a MA in English. He is also a 2012 graduate of the FBI Citizen’s Academy. Since he was hired in January 2000 at Scottsdale Community College, he has been the Faculty Senate President, the ESL Coordinator and the co-coordinator of the Honors Program. And for the last eight years, he has been the Director of Scottsdale Community College’s annual genocide conference, which he founded.

John went to Jaingmin, China for six weeks on a faculty exchange at the Wuyi Universtity. In 2006, he was asked by the American Association of Community Colleges’ (AACC), Community Colleges for International Development (CCID) to plan and implement an ESL workforce development program for the Faculty of Tourism at the University of St. Kliment in Ohrid, Macedonia. In 2008, John was a Fulbright Scholar in Morocco where he was on a program to bring back information on Moroccan literature to infuse into global studies programs. In 2016 he participated in the Conference for Holocaust Education Centers at the US Holocaust Museum in Washington DC and the Jacques and Charlotte Wolf Conference with the Anti-Defamation League in New York.

In 2016 he presented at the Community College Humanities Association Conference and in 2017 at the 23rd Annual AZ Center for Medieval & Renaissance Studies Conference, and in was on the Fulbright Balkan Borderlands Curriculum Program during which he traveled to: Bosnia, Montenegro, Croatia and Albania, and researched the Bosnian genocide. He also attended the inaugural International Leaders Summit at the US Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. He will be going to Mexico in May to spend two weeks working with professors from the University of Guanajuato on Mexican/indigenous historical relations and for a week to work with the Museo de la Memoria Y Tolerencia in Mexico City, which is the equivalent of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

In his spare time, he writes articles on history and has had several published in the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland, and is a life-member of the Orders and Medals Society of America as well as an active member of the British Orders and Medals Society (OMRS) for over 35 years. He has been a member of the Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations and served on the board of Scottsdale Sister Cities and as Chairman of the Board for the Arizona Council for International Visitors. He is a Class XXIX graduate of Scottsdale Leadership too.

He also serves on the Education Committee for the Anti-defamation League in Phoenix, Arizona and The Advisory Board for the Martin Springer Institute at Northern Arizona University, and also is a member of the International Association of Genocide Scholars and a board member of the Phoenix Holocaust Association. He was recently awarded a commendation and blessing by the Archbishop of the Armenian Diocese for his work in education regarding the Armenian Genocide. He is also the 2015 recipient of the Shofar Zakhor Award for his role in Holocaust education by the Phoenix Holocaust Survivors Association.

Dorie Morales is the publisher and editor in chief of Green Living magazine, Arizona’s premiere eco-conscious lifestyle publication. The monthly magazine educates, inspires and empowers readers to make eco-conscious choices for a healthy life and healthy planet. The goal of Green Living is to improve our planet today and leave the earth a much better place for future generations.

A magazine veteran, Dorie has been in magazine publishing since 1997. She started in sales at Apartment Guide magazine and was quickly promoted to publisher. She left Apartment Guide in 2004 to embark on a new business venture: partner in the start-up print publication Apartment Showcase. Three years later, at the height of Apartment Showcase’s success, The Apartment Finder purchased the magazine and Dorie continued as publisher.

In 2010, Dorie partnered in her second start-up, Green Living magazine. The publication was a perfect fit for Dorie, who embraces a green lifestyle and is passionate about passing on her knowledge for sustainable living to as many people as she possibly can.

Dorie Morales is deeply rooted in the Phoenix green scene. She is involved in many organizations that focus on sustainability, including the Arizona Green Chamber of Commerce, Arizona Forward, Local First Arizona and USGBC Arizona.

Currently, she sits on the board of the USGBC Arizona chapter and the planning committee of the Arizona Foundation of Women 2018/2019 Annual Luncheon. This year, the luncheon will showcase Ashley Judd as the recipient of the Sandra Day O’Connor award. Dorie is also a former board member for the Arizona Green Chamber and the Phoenix Final Four sustainability committee. In previous years, she served on Arizona Forward’s Environmental Excellence Awards committee, sat on the central branch of the USGBC and was co-chair of the Arizona Multi-housing Association trade show and worked on their membership committee and associate member council.

GreenLight Solutions Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that connects passionate students with local organizations to collaborate on sustainability projects. Ryan Mores is a passionate sustainability professional working in environmental nonprofit management. He is the Co-Founder and Operations Director of GreenLight Solutions Foundation, and is actively growing new student-led chapters to mobilize students to work on sustainability projects in their local business community.

Ryan earned degrees in Business Sustainability, Supply Chain Management, and a Certificate in International Business from Arizona State University in 2014. He also serves as Vice Chair on the Tempe Sustainability Commission, is a member of the Maricopa County Food System Coalition, and is an active volunteer and leader in his community.

Ashley Weisman is graduating with her Master of Sustainability Solutions degree from Arizona State University in May 2019. At University Sustainability Practices, she works with faculty and students to support and recognize sustainability transitions at ASU as the Sustainability Certification Program Assistant.

Ashley also serves as the Internal Development Intern at the GreenLight Solutions Foundation, a nonprofit that connects students to local businesses to collaborate on sustainability projects. Her path as an entrepreneur will focus on sustainability consulting and K-12 through professional level sustainability curriculum.

Originally from Lexington , Kentucky, Jason Higgins moved to Phoenix in 2018 and brought his business to the West Coast. Having been a single father and working multiple jobs, in 2017 he decided to take a leap of faith and opened Jupiter Rings buffalo sauce for business. The company is run solely by him and his 16 year old son, Rashaad.

Jason went to Sullivan University for culinary arts and worked as a sous chef for 6 years before branching out to be the project manager for a small local company in Kentucky, on top of delivering newspapers and cleaning a pig farm for $20 a week and fresh eggs.

Since he moved to Phoenix he developed the worlds first vegan labeled buffalo sauce to add to his brand which is currently being sold in every all vegan grocery stores and markets in the U.S., Canada, England, as well as Australia.
