Barbara Blalock with Treasures 4 Teachers and Theresa Niemeyer with Intel E36

With an average of more than $1000 annually coming from their own pockets, educators are struggling to get their students the basic supplies they need to be successful learners. Treasures 4 Teachers (T4T) has found a way to support educators with those needs by collaborating with community businesses, other non-profit agencies, and individual donors to collect new and re-usable resources and make them available for low or no cost to educators in our community.

Treasures 4 Teachers is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. To learn more about Treasures 4 Teachers (including donations or opportunities to volunteer), please visit their website at www.treasures4teachers.org.

Barbara-Blalock-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioX1Barbara Blalock founded Treasures 4 Teachers out of her garage 15 years ago. She saw a need for schools supplies in classrooms across the valley.

She started to collect donations of office and schools supplies from many businesses with Intel being the very first to jump on board and support the organization.

T4T serves an average of 4500 teachers a year, reaching about 135,000 students. The mission of Treasures 4 Teaches is to provide free and low cost supplies to educators from the community’s reusable resources.

We have big ambitions, and a growing sense of urgency to work with others and address world challenges no one can tackle alone.

Theresa-Niemeyer-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXTheresa Niemeyer is the AZ Public Affairs Community Engagement Manager responsible for the Intel Involved Volunteer Program. Although new to this role in August of 2015, she has a long history of community engagement during her 20+ years as an Intel employee.

She has volunteered in local classrooms, coached local sports teams, participated in Girls Scouting in various roles, and served as a board member for the Chandler Public Library and Chandler Education Foundation Board. During her time at Intel, she has recorded between 200-700 hours of volunteer time each year.

Prior to joining Intel Public Affairs, Theresa was a manager at Intel in both Arizona Test and Technology Development and AZ Fab/Sort Manufacturing. And earlier in her Intel career, after graduating from ASU, Theresa spent a number of years in Industrial Engineering as well as with Finance.

She is passionate about making a difference in her local community and is especially partial to causes focused on improving educational opportunities for children. She enjoys working in a role that allows her a platform to connect Intel employees to their passions for the benefit of the community.

She currently serves as secretary for the FANS Across American Charitable organization.

It is really important to have a strong culture and a focus on culture, especially during tough times like a pandemic. Part of building a culture is having set values that the company lives by. Transparency is one value that can benefit an organization. If you share everything, even financials, with all of your employees, it will help to build a stronger culture.

Speaking of company culture, tune in to this episode of MAC6 Community Connection Radio Show and Podcast to hear from Arizona Cactus Football League and Point In Time Studios leaders about what helped them thrive.

Rami Kalla, president of Point In Time Studios, Matt Archer Owner of the AZ Cactus Football League, and Amy and Derrick Parham Phoenix Phantoms Football Team Owners, joined Kyle McIntosh in the studio for this dynamic episode. They all agreed that by doing what you love and doing what you say you’re going to do, you will be successful.

Rami-Kalla-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXRami Kalla founded Point in Time Studios over 17 years ago, and it has been a fun adventure. His passion for film began at a young age when his Dad first brought home a brand new VHS camera. At only 10 years old, Rami gravitated to it immediately and began producing short films with family and friends.

Rami attended Arizona State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship. After graduation, he landed a very prestigious job working in Marketing for General Mills. However, he knew that he wasn’t living his true purpose. In March of 2002, Rami opened Point in Time Studios and never looked back. RealisticLogo

Over the last 16 years, he has had the pleasure of working with hundreds of incredible clients from small to large companies, including Ford, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, PetSmart, and more.

Rami has served on a number of local school and industry boards including the Art Institute Phoenix, the Peoria Unified School District, President of the Arizona Production Association, as well as the Accelerator Entrepreneurs Organization. He’s had the honor of working alongside some of the most talented professionals in the Film Industry.

Rami recently married his beautiful wife, Lauren. They have four incredible boys, Noah, Jaden, Wyatt, and our newest addition, Austin.

E58 Avoid the Dreaded Yearly Performance Review Cycle, Use Radical Candor and Micro-Reviews

Do you struggle with Performance Reviews each year? In this episode we have an informative chat with Chris Kopp talking performance reviews tools, process and techniques.

Chris is a long-time project management and business operations leader who shared his story with us including lessons learned from “Eating a chicken dinner” and “the farmer hiring someone who can sleep through the storm”. We learn about using tools to conduct micro-reviews throughout the year. Chris shared how the book Radical Candor has helped with his leadership approach. We hear why it’s ok to let someone know they have “spinach on their teeth”! Listen for his practical proven approach to avoid the dreaded yearly performance review cycle.

ABOUT PROJECT MANAGEMENT OFFICE HOURS SERIES

Project Management Office Hours is intended to provide Project Management professionals a place to drop in and discuss Success Stories, Best Practices, and Lessons Learned.  Project Management Consultant Joy Gumz has shared with us, “Operations keep the lights on, strategy provides the light at the end of the tunnel, but project management is the train engine that moves the organization forward.”

Each of us has a unique story to tell, but collectively we share a message that organizations who embrace Project Management Best Practices perform better than those which don’t.  Organizations which align Projects to Strategy perform better.  Organizations with Engage Executive Sponsors deliver better results.  Organizations which measure Project Management performance outperform those which don’t.

During our Project Management Office Hours, we hear directly from industry leaders how to make an impact in our profession. How we, collectively, will Advance Project Management Best Practices, One Listener at a time!

Resound CEO Mike Jones E5

Creating a brand for your company is one of the most important things you can do as a business owner.
Great brands are more than what they are selling or the services they offer. They focus on their purpose as a company. Think of Nike as an example of a company with a clear purpose and great branding.

Mike Jones, CEO of Resound, was the featured guest on this episode of MAC6 Community Connection Radio Show and Podcast. Jennifer Burwell, Kyle McIntosh, and Mike talked about everything from branding to marketing, the MAC6 community, to great books and more.

They all agreed that branding is an integral part of a successful business.

Resound-logo-red

People are intrinsically remarkable, and since organizations are created by human beings – every organization is remarkable too.

Unfortunately, most organizations don’t act like it.

Resound helps B2B companies find their authentic identities in order to resonate with their audiences and build lasting customer relationships through branding, websites, video, and marketing content.

Mike-Jones-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXRemarkable brands require authenticity and a die-hard commitment to values and purpose. Mike Jones passionately pursues these beliefs as CEO of his brand agency – Resound. (He also explores these topics as co-host of the podcast AZ Brandcast.)

In recognition of the work he’s done, this Arizona native has been named one of the state’s 40 Under 40 business leaders by the Phoenix Business Journal. He’s also co-directed PHX Startup Week, cofounded ThrivePHX, and serves on the board of Conscious Capitalism Arizona. He and his wife and three kids live in very sunny, Mesa, Arizona.

ABOUT YOUR MAC6 COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS CO-HOSTS

KyleMcIntoshWith a background in marketing, in various for profit and not for profit companies, Kyle McIntosh wondered, “How can I pair the passion and commitment to community progress of a non-profit with the sustainability and reach of a for profit company?” From this question and perspective a mission evolved to tear down the false distinction between the two sectors and to promote companies with Conscious Capitalism® business models through MAC6.

Kyle is the President and Creative Excitant of MAC6.  Day to day, his main operational role is on the “spaces” side of the business, focusing on creating thriving communities in the commercial office buildings, the co-working space, and the co-manufacturing space.  The other role that he plays is that of EOS implementer, working with clients to bring the Entrepreneurial Operating System, from the book Traction® to their businesses.  Additionally, he sits on the boards of Conscious Capitalism Arizona, telling the stories of good businesses in Arizona, and The Tempe Chamber of Commerce, sustaining Tempe’s quality of life and keeping our community and economy vibrant.

Kyle loves Arizona and wants to see us all collectively find great success based on the awesome things that are happening here every day.

She uses her experience in real estate, team development and management to seamlessly integrate each of the MAC6 business units to assure they are all focused on the long-term company vision. She is also a student of human behavior.

As a Certified Professional Behavioral Analyst, she uses her knowledge to facilitate culture-focused leadership programs with organizations of all sizes to integrate the company’s values and create higher-performing teams.
