Jae Knight/Bubba’s 33

Jae Knight is the Local Store Marketer for Bubba’s 33 restaurant in Buford. Bubba’s 33 makes everything in-house from scratch, right down to the sauces on their wings and dressings on their salads. Their patties are cooked medium well and served hot and juicy on a toasted bun. When all the other guys are feeding you frozen meals prepped in a warehouse miles away, Bubba’s 33 is whipping up something fresh and delicious the whole family will enjoy.

Lonnie Mimms is the founder and curator of the Computer Museum of America, exhibits featuring selected artifacts from the digital revolution.

From a very young age, Lonnie was interested in electronics. He started playing with Radio Shack kits in the early 1970s. By the age of ten, he gained access to an IBM 360 and was writing programs in APL. In the mid-70s, he and his best friend would go to the Rich Computer Center at GA Tech and spend Saturdays writing programs and playing games on the Cyber 74.

Over the years, Lonnie continued to hone his programming skills graduating from Georgia Tech, where he majored in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, he entered the family real estate business where he continues to work as the CEO.

Lonnie has always been a collector and kept all of his early computers, which were the inspiration for him to create exhibits and open the museum. As a co-founder of the Vintage Computer Festival Southeast held in Atlanta, this offered an opportunity to display and share part of his collection. Lonnie feels passionate about preserving computing artifacts and sharing the history of digital revolution can inspire the future.

During a family reunion in 2015, Edmund Nelson talked his cousin Dee from Florida into moving to Georgia so they could open a barbecue restaurant. They opened a food stand next to the Mini Mart on Harbins Road in Dacula. It was called Edee’s Place BBQ to represent Edmund and Dee’s names. After a few months of success, they drove to Alabama and purchased a food truck. The popularity of the food truck prompted them to look for space in the Dacula area. They found a closed restaurant off of Liam Avenue and formally opened Edee’s Place in April 2017. Edmund designed the restaurant after his mother’s kitchen. Everyone that comes to Edee’s Place should feel like they are at home eating his family’s recipes. Since Edee’s Place opened, the restaurant has hosted several events, a variety of patrons, and continues to grow! Come by and enjoy! Edee’s Place BBQ was a recent winner of the Reader’s Choice Award for 2018.

Chef Challenge is Feeding the Gulf Coast’s fundraiser that brings together some of our area’s most celebrated chefs and restaurants for an evening of superb food and drink while they compete to win best dish of the night in their respective category. Guests also will enjoy live entertainment by Roman Street and a vast silent auction, all in the name of ending hunger.

Chef Challenge is held to help advocate Hunger Action Month (September). Hunger Action Month is a nationwide awareness campaign set forth by our corporate affiliate, Feeding America, that educates the public about the issue of hunger and helps raise awareness about our hunger-relief efforts along the Central Gulf Coast.

Tickets can be purchased for $60 prior to the event, $75 at the door.

Guests must be 21 and over.

Cathy Pope has served as the President and CEO of Feeding the Gulf Coast since September of 2016. Formerly the executive director of Meals on Wheels of Central Georgia, Cathy has spent years combating hunger in communities. In her 25 years of work experience, Pope has worked at the Susan G. Komen Foundation, managed her own business, taught high school math, worked as an adjunct college instructor in microeconomics, and as a network engineer for Bell Atlantic. Pope has an undergraduate degree in mathematics, a Master’s in Business Administration and a Master’s in Political Science. Cathy has four children, two in college and two recent college graduates, all living in Georgia.

Mission

Working through member organizations and special programs, we provide nutritious food to meet the challenge of feeding people who are hungry as a result of personal crisis or disaster. We work to educate the public regarding domestic hunger, proper nutrition and related issues.
Feeding the Gulf Coast, formerly Bay Area Food Bank, serves a 24-county area spanning south Alabama, south Mississippi, and the panhandle of Florida. In 2016, the food bank distributed over 22 million pounds of food to nearly 400 church pantries, soup kitchens and other nonprofit organizations throughout its service area. The food bank also operates multiple nutrition programs, including Summer Food Service, Afterschool Snack, Backpack, Disaster Relief, Community Garden, Mobile Pantry, Produce Drop, Cooking Matters, and SNAP Outreach.
