“Beyond the Cupola” allows invited customers, community, and team members of Oconee State Bank to have an opportunity to share their stories of success and inspiration, and/or how the Remarkable culture of Oconee State Bank has inspired them to mark lives in their own right.

Neil Stevens/Oconee State Bank

In the early 1900s, there were banks in all the small towns of Oconee County… Bishop, Bogart, Eastville, Farmington and Watkinsville. When the Depression came along in 1929, all the banks went broke and Oconee County was without a bank for the next 30 years. Farmers and small merchants had to travel to Athens for their banking needs.

In 1958, a group of community leaders recognized the need for a bank in Oconee County and started a process of getting the necessary approval for a state chartered community bank. In 1959, the FDIC approved a community bank and Oconee State Bank opened its doors for business on February 1, 1960 with 3 employees and a small corner office on Main Street in downtown Watkinsville.

Today, Oconee State Bank has 3 full-service financial centers located in Oconee County, GA as well as a website which serves as an “Internet Branch.” The vision of the founders continues today. Oconee State Bank is proud to provide an unparalleled commitment to personalized service, value-added products, and a deep sense of responsibility to the communities they serve.

Elease Dillard/The Student Navigator

Months before her high school graduation, Elease Dillard made the tough decision to deny the opportunity to pursue playing college basketball and solely pursue academics instead. Considering the last-minute decision to not play college basketball, plus having a younger sibling graduating high school in two years, Elease concluded that she would pay for college herself. However, there was one problem. She had no idea how or where to start!

With that goal in mind, Elease developed a plan of action and was able to graduate college debt-free. She graduated college Cum Laude from Georgia Gwinnett College and currently holds a B.S. in Cell Biology with a concentration in Biotechnology. As a freshman and sophomore in college, Elease interned with The Neuroscience Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine. Her junior year, she interned on behalf of The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at The University of California San Francisco, where she conducted an independent study.

Experienced at winning scholarships and landing internships, Elease founded The Student Navigator because she wants to help ease the stress and frustration that is commonly associated with paying for a degree and pursuing a career. In addition, she encourages students to maximize their educational experience. Elease hopes her story will inspire others to take action towards living in freedom, passion, and purpose.

Elease is also the bestselling author of Funding College Debt-Free: your Interactive Guide Towards Living a Life of Freedom, Passion, and Purpose.

Cally D’Angelo/Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce

The Gwinnett Chamber is the forum for business, government, education, healthcare, arts/culture/entertainment, and philanthropic and public-service communities to come together to advance our region’s economy and enrich Gwinnett’s quality of life.

Rob Young & Steve Kendrick/Back to School Backpack Program

May is not usually the time of year you think about giving generously. But it is the perfect time to consider helping Subaru of Gwinnett and Infiniti of Gwinnett do just that. The Back to School Backpack Program is a non-profit charity that works to provide necessary school supplies and backpacks to children in Gwinnett County who are in need. This is a charity that is near and dear to our hearts.

When Steve K. Kendrick, Executive General Manager of Infiniti of Gwinnett and Subaru of Gwinnett, found out that Gwinnett County would have more than 5,000+ homeless children attending school, he asked his employees if they could all get behind the effort to help provide these children with something that would give them hope, trust and self-esteem for the future. From this, the Back to School Back Pack Program was launched in 2007. Each as the need has grown we have risen to meet the challenge. But we can’t do it alone!

That is where you come in. The 11th Annual Back to School Backpack Program Golf Classic will take place on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Bears Best Golf Course in Suwanee.
