When Andrew was 15, his mother requested he go out and find a job. So he went down the block to the local Italian steakhouse and asked if they needed help. Luckily they did, and he was hooked into the world of food and beverage. That experience cemented his desire to become a chef and led him to choose a culinary school in the Catskill Mountains of New York for his college education. Andrew gained invaluable experience working in the enormous kitchens in the Catskill resort hotels while earning his degree. Recruited right out of school by Marriott Hotels and Resorts, Andrew was asked to be a member of the opening management team of the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square.  After moving his way up the culinary ladder and winning several culinary awards along the way, from culinary shows to corporate events, he left Marriott.

Andrew partnered with his college friend and opened Love at First Bite Catering in Manhattan. Clients included Radio City Music Hall, the Luxembourg Consulate, the Pace Collection and Fordham University. After selling Love at First Bite, Andrew and his wife, Sue, followed a dream and traveled around the United States for six months, sampling the cuisines of the various regions of our great country along the way.

Upon returning to New York after their travels, Andrew was offered a position as Executive Chef at a corporate catering company in Manhattan. Ten months later, Marriott came calling again and Andrew was offered a position as Executive Sous Chef at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia. He accepted the position at the Marquis, which was the host hotel for the 1996 Olympic Headquarters.

After three years, Andrew was offered the opportunity to become Executive Chef of the Memphis Marriott Downtown Hotel and Convention Center. After a couple of years, Atlanta once again beckoned, and his next promotion was the position of Executive Chef of the Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Andrew was at Evergreen for 14 years. During that period, he served on several Advisory Boards, notably Avendra (the purchasing company for Marriott, Hyatt, and several other hotel companies); Lakeview High School in DeKalb County; and Grayson Technical Culinary Arts Program. The board position he is most honored to hold for thirteen years is on the Advisory Board of the Atlanta Community Food Bank and he is proud to continue to serve.

With his extensive professional contacts–many who have become friends–and his knowledge of the local culinary scene, he is ready to share his experience with you through his food studio, A&S Culinary Concepts.

Ryan McShane, AVP, Commercial Banking, Renasant Bank

Other than a 4-year stint in Milledgeville to obtain a business degree from Georgia College and a 3-year stint in Birmingham, AL,  Ryan has lived in Metro Atlanta since he was born. He started his career in corporate sales in telecommunications and eventually moved into banking as an analyst for a Metro Atlanta community bank that was later acquired by Renasant. He has been with Renasant since 2015 and works as a commercial banker assisting clients with financial services and commercial loans for real estate, equipment, working capital, business acquisitions, and more.

Thirty years before Elvis Presley’s birth put Tupelo, Mississippi, on the map, a group of prominent businessmen from Lee County joined together to form The Peoples Bank & Trust Company, which would one day become Renasant Bank. Through perseverance, leadership, and commitment to their communities, Renasant Bank has withstood the Bankers’ Panic of 1907, the 1929 National Bank Holiday” along with many economic cycles. In 2010 and 2011, Renasant acquired Crescent Bank and Trust of Jasper and American Bank and Trust of Roswell through FDIC banking transactions. This gave Renasant 13 locations in the North Georgia and suburban Atlanta markets. In 2016, Renasant acquired KeyWorth Bank and in 2018 Renasant acquired Brand Bank.

Today, Renasant Bank has 30 branches in North Georgia and more than $3 Billion in assets. Renasant operates more than 200 locations in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida and has approximately $13.9 Billion in assets. Their vision is to be the financial services advisor and provider of choice in each community they serve.

National Women’s Equality Day 2021, with Rita Evans and Mary Ledbetter (North Fulton Business Radio, Episode 383)

Rita Evans and Mary Ledbetter joined host John Ray on North Fulton Business Radio to celebrate National Women’s Equality Day 2021. This date is celebrated on August 26th to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, allowing women the right to vote. It’s also a day to consider other areas in which women continue to face obstacles, and Rita and Mary discussed some of those issues, particularly as it relates to corporate diversity, the workplace, and entrepreneurship. North Fulton Business Radio is broadcast from the North Fulton studio of Business RadioX® inside Renasant Bank in Alpharetta.

National Women’s Equality Day

Women’s Equality Day, August 26th, commemorates the struggles of women to be heard, as fierce advocates who gained the statutory right to vote. Also, known as women’s suffrage, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, guarantees all American women the right to vote. The Amendment changed Federal law and the face of the American electorate forever. Women won legal recognition as equal citizens under the 19th Amendment. While women in some states could already vote before 1920, women in some states—particularly those of color—were blocked from voting after ratification.

Additionally, the voting rights of Native American women were not recognized until 1924. For Chinese American women, it was 1943, and for Japanese and other Asian American women it was 1952.

While African American women were quite active in the women’s suffrage movement of the early 19th century, they remained barred from voting for decades after their white counterparts. It wasn’t until passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965, that African American women were granted the right to vote.

Women’s Equality Day gives us an opportunity to reflect on the continuing struggle for equality in the workplace and the role of women in our public life. Women in public service and government have long served this nation by working to clear barriers, enforce laws, implement new ideas, and change people’s attitudes. (Department of Defense Education Activity)

38 Agree for Georgia

Mission Statement:  The ERA Coalition and 38 Agree for Georgia shall work to facilitate the passage of the ERA in the State of Georgia.  As a non-partisan organization, we shall seek support from all citizens of Georgia while we work to gain equal protection for every person.

It is past time for Georgians to ratify the ERA. As part of the Three State Strategy, the Nevada Legislature passed ERA legislation in March 2017.  The Illinois Legislature ratified the ERA in March 2018. Virginia ratified the ERA in January 2019.  Georgia should carry on and ratify.  It is our duty to accomplish this place in history.

The Equal Rights Amendment was first introduced in 1923 and was originally written by Alice Paul and Crystal Eastman. In 1972, it passed both houses of Congress and was submitted to the state legislatures for ratification. Passage fell short of the required 38 states with just 35 states ratifying the amendment.

Everyone has a personal brand. Your brand is built one of two ways: 1) By default: do nothing and you have to settle for how it turns out, or 2) By design: if you consistently focus on developing and building your brand, you can help shape the outcome.

LinkedIn has over 770 million users and is the digital home of your personal brand. LinkedIn is also a great place to build relationships and grow your professional network.

When you set up your LinkedIn profile, you’re defining what you’d like your brand to be. It is not your personal brand until others believe it.

Gregg Burkhalter is a recognized authority on personal branding and LinkedIn. He has helped countless professionals in the U.S. and around the world define and grow their personal brand using LinkedIn.

Gregg is known by many as “The LinkedIn Guy”. He provides Personal Branding Coaching and LinkedIn Training via one-on-one and group training sessions, corporate presentations, and webinars.

Bottom Line Management

Loren Schmerler, Bottom Line Management (North Fulton Business Radio, Episode 377)

In a conversation with host John Ray, veteran business broker Loren Schmerler of Bottom Line Management detailed many of the preparations and good business practices which create the conditions for a successful sale.  Loren also discussed common mistakes sellers make, why a seller needs to take on a buyer’s mindset, and much more. Bottom Line Management, Inc.

Bottom Line Management, Inc. was established in September of 1987 as a Business Brokerage/Business Intermediary(M&A) Organization with an extensive background in Business Consulting Services. Their primary focus is to help Business Owners sell their Businesses for the highest price with the most favorable terms. Additionally, the firm assists qualified Buyers in their efforts to explore acquisition opportunities that closely match their skill sets.Bottom Line Management

The firm offers an Opinion of Value service that helps Business Owners understand the “street value” of their businesses. Additionally, the firm offers a Buyer’s Program where Clients pay an initial Retainer that is credited against its fee on the day of closing. This service has been extremely well received over the years because Buyers no longer feel alone during their search process. There is never a fee for a free initial consultation.

The firm is licensed in Georgia and can sell businesses anywhere in the United States either alone or through co-brokerage. Dozens of glowing testimonial letters can be found on the firm’s BOTLINE.COM website. Also, there are two YouTube videos that assist both Sellers and Buyers during their respective efforts.

Bottom Line Management, Inc. is known for its altruistic pro bono services when Clients are in need of expert representation when they lack the economic resources for Retainers or Listing Fees.
