Andrew Traub, Chef and Owner

Andrew Traub, A&S Culinary
Andrew Traub, A&S Culinary

When Andrew Traub was 15, his mother requested he go out and find a job. So he went down the block to the local Italian steakhouse and asked if they needed help. Luckily they did, and he was hooked into the world of food and beverage. That experience cemented his desire to become a chef and led him to choose a culinary school in the Catskill Mountains of New York for his college education. Andrew gained invaluable experience working in the enormous kitchens in the Catskill resort hotels while earning his degree. Recruited right out of school by Marriott Hotels and Resorts, Andrew was asked to be a member of the opening management team of the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square. After moving his way up the culinary ladder and winning several culinary awards along the way, from culinary shows to corporate events, he left Marriott.

Andrew partnered with his college friend and opened Love at First Bite Catering in Manhattan. Clients included Radio City Music Hall, the Luxembourg Consulate, the Pace Collection and Fordham University. After selling Love at First Bite, Andrew and his wife, Sue, followed a dream and traveled around the United States for six months, sampling the cuisines of the various regions of our great country along the way.

Upon returning to New York after their travels, Andrew was offered a position as Executive Chef at a corporate catering company in Manhattan. Ten months later, Marriott came calling again and Andrew was offered a position as Executive Sous Chef at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia. He accepted the position at the Marquis, which was the host hotel for the 1996 Olympic Headquarters.

After three years, Andrew was offered the opportunity to become Executive Chef of the Memphis Marriott Downtown Hotel and Convention Center. After a couple of years, Atlanta once again beckoned, and his next promotion was the position of Executive Chef of the Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Andrew was at Evergreen for 14 years. During that period, he served on several Advisory Boards, notably Avendra (the purchasing company for Marriott, Hyatt and several other hotel companies); Lakeview High School in DeKalb County; and Grayson Technical Culinary Arts Program. The board position he is most honored to hold for thirteen years is on the Advisory Board of the Atlanta Community Food Bank and he is proud to continue to serve.

With his extensive professional contacts–many who have become friends–and his knowledge of the local culinary scene, he is ready to share his experience with you through his food studio, A&S Culinary Concepts.

Paul Knowlton, Ubercounsel: The Firm of Paul Knowlton, J.D., M.Div.

Ubercounsel, the Law Firm of Paul Knowlton, J.D., M.Div., is more than a law firm. It’s an extension of the founder as a person; a highly trusted and skilled attorney-counselor whose counsel and action are fueled by compassion. Other firms have vision statements, Ubercounsel has a soul.

Drawing from the unique combination of the founder’s legal, business, and pastoral counseling successes, the firm presently offers six categories of services:

First Step: Evaluating and crafting your action plan
Family Care: Protecting your personal and financial objectives
Business Law & Consulting: Legal and executive experience helping you succeed
Conflict & Dispute Resolution: Skilled assistance getting to your best resolution
Pastoral Care & Counseling: A holistic posture to helping you see and go deeper
Professional Development & Coaching: Supporting your growth on the journey

About Paul Knowlton:

Prior to law school Paul’s corporate roles include being a construction superintendent with Ryland Homes and a forensic engineer with Georgia Pacific. During law school he clerked for and joined an intellectual property boutique, also becoming a patent attorney, that was soon acquired by Kilpatrick Stockton. At Kilpatrick and later at his first firm, he built a successful intellectual property prosecution and litigation track record. Paul initiated, co-founded and was the managing member of a successful IP boutique and then later the director of another. After successfully serving as the CEO of a large human services agency, he most recently launched his second firm Ubercounsel and received an appointment at Mercer University.

In addition to being licensed in GA and the 11th Circuit, a registered patent attorney, a Henning trained mediator and arbitrator, a Martindale Hubbell Distinguished attorney, and Georgia Trend Legal Elite, in 2014 he earned his Master of Divinity with a concentration in pastoral care and counseling. An active leader of the State Bar of Georgia’s Attorney Wellness and Lawyer Assistance Program committees, he offers solutions to the stresses of professional life.

What is Paul’s back story, and particularly why does he have a passion for family care, pastoral counseling, and professional development?

The son of an immigrant Hispanic mother and federally convicted father, Paul was placed in foster care as were all his siblings. From a very early age he has the lived experience of the relentless stresses, anxieties, and fears that push so many of us to irreconcilable despair.

Turning inwardly as a young adult to develop the skills to recover, redirect, and wildly prosper after a brutal beginning, he is an attorney-counselor who is authentically and creditably a friend on the journey.

Show Transcript

Hello, everyone, I’m John Ray. I’m the owner of the North Fulton Business RadioX® studio and host of “North Fulton Business Radio” and “Alpharetta Tech Talk.” I just wanted to give you an update on what’s happening with us here in North Fulton. I’ve spoken with all the hosts of our various shows and they agree with me that there is important work for us to do right now in the current environment we find ourselves in. We need to be sharing the stories of the courageous and tireless work that business owners and entrepreneurs are doing. And we need to share advice and help and encouragement and inspiration and do so in the way that Business RadioX® has always done, giving folks a forum to tell their stories without interruption and unfiltered, and allow our listeners to hear the warmth and passion in their voice when they do that. So you’ll be hearing from us, and as we capture these stories, it’s just our “new normal,” if you will, that’s a little bit different.

A couple of days ago, we decided that from a safety point of view, we needed to relocate the studio out of Renasant Bank and operate virtually. And since that time, Renasant, like quite a few other banks has announced appointment only access to their branches for bank customers. Their drive-ins, by the way, continue to be open for business. We’ve got a couple more shows to post that were done prior to relocating, but from here on, we’ll be doing virtual interviews with our guest. We’ve already done several, which we’ll be posting soon. So we will continue to fulfill the mission that my other Business RadioX studio partners and I are committed to, and that is serving as the voice of business in our community. So stay in touch with us. Subscribe on your favorite podcast app. Let us hear from you. Comment if you like what we’re doing. You know, friends, hope is not false optimism. Hope does not discount challenges. Hope is clear-eyed realism, I think, mixed with the knowledge that opportunities to pivot and to grow present themselves in challenging times. So stay hopeful, be engaged, encourage each other and be safe. God bless you.
