Booth 61 with Terry Kim and Eugene Yukin 9 25 2013Booth 61 on 9/25 was another major HOME RUN. I was eager to meet Terry Kim, Founder of CheckAction and Eugene Yukin, Founder of TranscriptsHQ because they both came very highly recommended by Johnson Cook and Kyle Porter at the Atlanta Tech Village.  I now owe Johnson and Kyle even more than I did before. These two YOUNG guys are the real deal and I know we will be hearing more from and about them over the next few years. Listen to this interview and learn from two passionate entrepreneurs about their past, their hopes, and their future. After listening, I suggest you visit both of their websites from the Link on this page and explore what they are doing in their respective industries.

After spending almost 3 hours with these two fine gentlemen, I felt 20 years younger and 10 times smarter. It was a privilege meeting them and I plan on spending more time with them in the near future.

Booth 61 with Becky Blalock and Karl Jennings 2Booth 61 on Wednesday, September 11th was a blast. My guests, Becky Blalock and Karl Jennings shared all of the exciting things happening in the technology community for the United Way of Atlanta. This year’s IT United Campaign is off and running with an A+ team of leaders and is being chaired by Becky and Jay Ferro, CIO of the American Cancer Association.

Our first “public” event will be Wednesday, October 16th at AGL Resources hosted by the AGL CIO, Joe Surber. This is an event for companies who are either running an employee campaign or having leadership contributions exceeding $5,000.00. The panel is A++ with CIO superstars sharing their wisdom and wit including Jean Holley from Brambles, Karen Kreider from the Automotive Parts Group at Genuine Parts, and Janet Sherlock from Carter’s. This is a DO NOT MISS event for every service provider in the IT community. We will also have a special presentation from Ms. Blalock on her new book, DARE, which will be published on October 3rd.

Booth 61 with David Lewis and Che Watkins 1Today was a very special day in Booth 61 history. I was honored to have two wonderful people join me to discuss (co) lab 2013 created and produced by Leadership Atlanta. Ché Watkins is a senior executive with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Spellman graduate and alumnus of Leadership Atlanta Class of 2009. David Lewis is a highly acclaimed director/producer/radio host, award winning journalist, Harvard graduate and alumnus of Leadership Atlanta Class of 2012. I am an old man being an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta Class of 1986 when the earth was still cooling and no one I know owned a computer. My how times have changed. Leadership Atlanta was a defining moment in my life and based on today’s interview, I believe it was a defining moment in the lives of Ché and David.

(co) lab 2013 is going to be an extraordinary experience filled with interactive sessions led by world leaders in education, government, politics, and business. Two time Pulitzer prize winning author from the New York Times, Thomas Friedman ends the sessions on Monday the 23rd. There are over 70 speakers from Sunday noon until the closing presentation including Sir Ken Robinson, Mayor Kasim Reed, Governor Nathan Deal, Ron Clark, Alan Dabbiere, David Cummings, Bud Peterson and the list goes on and on. I think this is the most important educational opportunity for people in our community in 2013.

If you love Atlanta, please listen to our show and register to participate in the inaugural (co) lab 2013. You may register and learn more about this amazing event at: (co) lab summit 2013

Booth 61 with Patrick Clements and Brooks Robinson 8 28 2013 1This is a great show featuring two young, very smart entrepreneurs who are creating what I believe to be two of Atlanta’s next success stories. In addition both are very active in the not for profit world making our city a greater place for all our citizens.

Patrick Clements is the CEO of bigWebApps and his newest company is Sherpa Desk. Patrick is passionate about the customer service experience and his company is providing services to companies across the planet. Patrick created Draft on Taft, a local not for profit that hosts an annual music, food, and fun event in midtown Atlanta. Since the inception, Draft on Taft has raised over $200,000 for local and national organizations dealing with issues facing children. In 2013 the not for profit receiving funds was GiGi’s Playhouse, an organization assisting children born with Down Syndrome.

Brooks Robinson is someone I have known and admired for many years. Brooks is the founder and CEO of Springbot. Brooks is helping on line retailers deliver compelling advertising messages at just the right moment. His company is driving up conversation rates for his clients. Brooks and his wife are both in leadership positions with Kate’s Club, an organization whose mission is to empower children and teens facing life after the death of a parent or sibling.

I highly recommend that you listen to these two successful entrepreneurs share their stories. Visit their websites and get to know their companies. I promise you will be hearing a great deal about these companies in the near future.

Julie and Larry shared the exciting story of Atlanta’s thriving and growing Mobility market place. As an Atlanta native, I am so proud of everything our Chamber is doing to promote the Atlanta entrepreneurial, start-up technology community. The results are powerful.

They also shared all of the exciting news about the upcoming Mobility LIVE event on October 1st at the Woodruff Arts Center. There are less than 500 available seats. This is a DO NOT MISS EVENT! My company, Hunter Technical Resources will bring a crowd so if you want tickets, you should order them yesterday. 🙂

Booth 61 with Dr. Eloisa Klementich 4 8 14 2013Booth 61 hit an academic milestone on 8/14 with Dr. Eloisa Klementich. Dr. Klementich has three MBA’s and a PhD. I have not had the opportunity to be around that kind of “Book Learning” too often in the past. It was quite refreshing and my personal IQ must have doubled during our time together through osmosis. The best part is that although it was very obvious that Dr. Klementich is brilliant, she was very down to earth and great fun being with during the show. I predict you will be hearing her name many times in the future.

Dr. Klementich is the Managing Director at Invest Atlanta which is the economic development arm of the City of Atlanta. As a native of Atlanta and a great lover of all things Atlanta, I was excited to hear about all of the forward thinking initiatives the City is doing to promote economic growth. The most exciting part was what the City is doing to help the start up business community.

Invest Atlanta is going to be publishing a blog geared to the Start Up Community beginning Monday, August 19th. To celebrate the launch, Invest Atlanta is hosting an event on Wednesday, August 21st at Atlantic Station. The panel includes three Atlanta technology legends, Reggie Bradford, Charles Brewer, and Sig Mosley. The moderator is Atlanta Technology King, John Yates. You must register to attend.

I am quite proud of this show and of all the innovative programs my hometown is doing to insure growth for Atlanta’s future.

Booth 61 with David Lilenfeld 7 31 2013 2July 31st was an exciting Booth 61. David Lilenfeld, Founder of Sterling Funder, took us to school on crowd sourcing and crowd funding. This new form of financing for early stage companies is growing rapidly and David is a pioneer in the field. What was wonderful to me as an Atlanta, Georgia native was to learn how progressive our State has been in this area. Georgia is one of the first two states to approve crowd funding and Sterling Funder was the platform for the first offering of this kind in the United States. I am personally registering to be an investor and I would encourage others to follow suit. This will not be for everyone and with every investment, there is risk. However, I am confident there will be some real winners in this space. You can register and learn a lot more about crowd funding by visiting www.sterlingfunder.com.

Booth 61 7 24 2013 starring Kim Rozycki and Dr. Ed Helton 3

Very special edition of Booth 61 on 7 24 2013 highlighting the upcoming Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum, and the great work of the Leadership Institute at the Cunningham Center, Columbus State University.

Dr. Ed Helton, Executive Director of the Leadership Institute at Columbus State University and Kim Rozycki, Director of Events & Operations at the Cunningham Center shared the incredible work being done through the Institute. I was unaware that Columbus State had created a very successful “Consulting” practice for companies and organizations of all sizes. Their success is being felt through the growth and increased productivity of their clients in Columbus and around the southeast with many in the greater Atlanta area. The world of business is changing every hour. Having the expertise of Dr. Helton and his team from Columbus State University will help you navigate the dangerous waters your business experiences from time to time.

You may contact Ed or Kim directly at Columbus State by calling (706) 568-5101 or visiting the Cunningham Center website at: www.ColumbusState.edu/CunninghamCenter.

Booth 61 with Ben Hendrick 2 7 17 2013

On July 17th, I was honored to have my friend, Ben Hendrick, in the studio. Ben did an outstanding job of articulating the value proposition of the new Dell. I have learned a great deal about Dell since Ben joined the company 5 years ago but I learned a lot more  during our time together in Booth 61. Ben gave a major shout out to Dell SecureWorks and the outstanding company Mike Cote, Tyler Winkler, and the entire SecureWorks team built before Dell purchased their company last year. Dell SecureWorks has become one of the fastest growing business units in the Dell Corporation which makes all of us in Atlanta very proud.

We also talked about the tremendous contribution that Ben and Dell have made to the city of Atlanta since Ben accepted responsibility to be the civic and not for profit advocate for Dell in the Southeast. In my opinion, Ben has become the “Face” for Dell in the Atlanta community. I would venture to say that Ben has more first name relationships with CIO’s in this region than any other Dell executive. A lot of Ben’s growth and success is because of his involvement in TechBridge, WIT, and the GCLA CIO of the Year Awards. Regardless of how many times I praised Ben personally, he would not accept the credit but gave the credit to the entire Dell team and to the culture at Dell. I also learned about the recent establishment of a WISE (Women In Search of Excellence) resource group here in Atlanta to support and help women who are employees at Dell succeed. (http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/uscorp1/corp-comm/cr-diversity-wise).

One of the highlights of our time together was two call in guests. Brenda Holmes, Partner with Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP , and current Women in Technology Board President called in to thank Ben and Dell for the incredible support they have given to WIT, www.mywit.org. That was a special moment only to be followed about 15 minutes later by a call from Carrie Bates Hastings, Director of Corporate Relations for TechBridge, www.techbridge.org. Carrie also thanked Ben and Dell for their above and beyond contributions financially, with equipment, and consulting services. Last year in the Atlanta area over 1, 000,000 people were touched directly by TechBridge and the agencies they serve. Carrie said that would have been impossible if not for Dell and their support.

This was my 20th week of hosting Booth 61 and every show has been special to me. This 20th show was an extreme high peak for me because Ben and I began our relationship about 7 years ago when I was a guest speaker to his MBA Class at Kennesaw State University. I have watched Ben grow from a good technology executive into a real leader in our community. Ben has done an unbelievable job in the last 7 years creating a personal brand that involves hard work, ethical business practices, and a passion for Dell that makes you want to do business with Ben and with Dell. In addition, through the Dell team and the Dell financial contributions to our technology community, Ben is recognized as a key business leader with considerable influence in our community. I am very proud of and for my friend, Ben.

I know you will enjoy this show. I enjoyed listening while we were recording and I have listened to the show twice today. I learn something of value each time I listen.
