In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share a favorite fruit and nut salad recipe. We love adding fruit and nuts into our salads. Number one because it is delicious and number two it is because it helps us get in our proper servings of fruit and protein. You start this rock star salad with some baby spinach as the base then add your favorite fruits like strawberries, mangoes, or oranges. now add some nuts like pecans, walnuts or almonds – don’t go too nuts with the nuts because they have a lot of calories. Now add more veggies like olives, mushrooms or hearts of palm. Add dressing if you’d like – maybe a nice balsamic vinegar or go commando – without dressing. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. As more and more of us use smart phones like the iPhone, Android based phones and even the Blackberry you can take advantage of the apps that run on each of those devices to improve your fitness levels. These apps can track your runs and workouts, keep your music and even add the ability to share your workouts with your friends. Some of these apps cost a few bucks but some are also free. We experiment with apps all the time – you just download them to your phone – try them for awhile then delete them if they don’t work for you. for a few bucks you can try Cardio trainer for Runners – RunKeeper app is free if you want to go in that direction. iFitness is a paid app that tracks your strength training exercises. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Dr Michael Aziz author of the book Perfect 10 Diet. Dr Aziz is one of New York City’s most sought after physicians. He founded Midtown Integrative Medicine on Madison Avenue over a decade ago. After
unsuccessfully trying to lose weight himself in the 1990’s using conventional methods – Dr Aziz began studying the relationships between nutrition, weight loss and better health. He realized that an aggressively low fat diet is bad for your health. So he began developing his own balanced approach to weight loss. His progream focuses on ten key hormones (insulin, glucagon, leptin, human growth hormone, thyroid hormone, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and DHEA) that help give you a more balanced approach to losing weight and keeping it off. His 40-20-40 formula (40% of calories come from good carbs, 20% comes from protein and 40% comes from healthy fats) helps the weight come off easy and keeps up your energy levels as well. Some of the tips Dr Aziz shared were: that there are two main reasons people gain weight 1-from emotional eating too much and 2- hormone imbalance. You should avoid foods that have too many chemicals and added hormones. Eat only real foods. You can create human growth hormone naturally by sleeping more, lifting weights and eating protein. Rebecca Prien, attorney and artist, shares with us about how she helps creative entrepreneurs use the law to harness and leverage their creativity to grow their businesses—and how she’s doing that for her own business, counsel-to-creativity.
Rebecca specializes in creativity-law-creativity translation. She counsels right-brained entrepreneurs on how to harness and leverage their creativity to grow their businesses. Committed to helping creative businesses thrive, Rebecca believes that legal structures are key to creating a thriving, sustainable business. To get there, she connects with her clients through playing with language and drawing concepts, literally changing the way law is done.
She is a graduate of Princeton University and Boston University School of Law and, over the last decade, has served at two United States Courts of Appeals and in private practice at two major firms. But she’s never been simply an attorney, having woven her creative and entrepreneurial pursuits, which include creative writing, painting and yoga, throughout her education and career.
We help local business leaders get the word out about the important work they’re doing to serve their market, their community, and their profession.
We support and celebrate business by sharing positive business stories that traditional media ignores. Some media leans left. Some media leans right. We lean business.
