Before Jeff Young worked with senior adults, he worked with animals. In fact, that’s how he developed his passion for seniors – by sharing a common interest in canaries with a senior. After semi-retirement from the pet business, Jeff was approached by a friend to simply provide maintenance services at a skilled nursing community. The next thing you know, Jeff is the Admissions Director for Briarcliff Haven, a 165 bed skilled nursing facility and subacute rehab center. To contact Jeff, or arrange a tour, call (404) 875-6456. and help you lose weight. You wear the Gruve on your waistband of your pants and it records all the activity you are doing throughout the day. You then plug it into your computer and you can literally see a minute by minute graph of your daily activity. The Gruve is based upon the work of Dr James Levine’s non-exercise activity thermogenesis or NEAT. They created this device because one of the main differences between fat people and thin people is that thin people move more throughout the day than fat people do. And we are not talking about thin people exercising like crazy and running marathons they are just moving around more. Created with help from the Mayo Clinic the Gruve encourages and tracks all of your movement – in accordance with the NEAT method of exercise and weight loss management. It actually vibrates when you are sitting around too long in order to encourage you to get off your butt and move a round a little bit. During their research in creating the Gruve they discovered that Gruve users increased their activity behavior and that caused a drop in their blood pressure and blood lipid levels along with weight loss.
