Jamar and Robert with CBL and Frank Ceballos with REACT

Jamar Johnson is the Founder and CEO of Community Basketball Leagues Worldwide, Inc. (CBL). He’s also a published author and Chief Editor of CBLHOOPSUSA Magazine.

Former Indiana high school phenom and college basketball player, Jamar Johnson, started a community-based recreational semi-pro basketball league in his hometown. Today, based in Tempe, AZ, the CBL is the largest national membership-based recreational and semi-pro basketball league for adult players in the US. The Community Basketball Leagues (CBL) has gone from being a fun and competitive league for recreational players to a league that is now giving players a pathway to a college and professional basketball career.

Over the last nine years Jamar has experienced days that have really tested his resolve and his reasoning for wanting to do the league. Every time that he thought he was ready to throw in the towel and give up, something would happen to show him why the CBL was so important. A player would get a college scholarship or a contract to play overseas. Another would get the job that he really wanted. A parent would email him thanking him for making the league available for their son, or a player would call him and say he appreciated what Jamar was doing for players.

The league started with 144 players and today they have close to 25,000 players in their national database.
This is also why Jamar has such a strong belief about the CBL. The numbers don’t lie and the CBL has never had millions of dollars for a national marketing campaign to get all of those players interested in the league.

All of this just makes Jamar work harder because he knows there are so many players out there that need the CBL so they too can enjoy their recreational experience or live and seek out their basketball dreams and aspirations. The CBL’s ultimate goal is to have leagues for men and women players in 600 cities all across the United States.

Jamar’s mission with the CBL League Franchise and team ownership program is to provide a turn-key business opportunity for those who love the game of basketball, want to do something great in their community, and help players get the exposure and the opportunity they need to further their career!

Robert Branch is finishing his first year as the League Director and Head Basketball Coach with the CBL Exposure League. Robert has a degree in Computer Networking and Information Technology and is currently pursuing a degree in Sports Management from Grand Canyon University.

Coach Branch has over 12 years of experience coaching basketball at the Youth and High School level. He has coached at Scottsdale Christian Academy, and Paradise Valley High School. During this time, he has won a State Championship (2013). Coach Branch has seen players he has coached go on to play at Division I Universities such as Fresno State and Stanford. Coach Branch spent time as a League Director (LD) and Player Development Coach (PDC) of the Central Arizona Basketball Organization (C.A.B.O). During this time, he has developed players and has guided them into securing contracts from International Teams such as (China, Italy, London).

Robert is very excited to play a vital role in the community and also taking an active Leadership role in player character development.

His Motto is: Hard work can take you to places you want to go!”

Frank Ceballos has over eight years of law enforcement experience. He began his career in law enforcement in October 2009 as Reserve Officer with the Arizona State Capitol Police after completing the Academy at Chandler – Gilbert Community College. In June of 2010, Frank was given the opportunity to become a full-time Police Officer with the Arizona State Capitol Police.

In February of 2012, Frank was selected to become the Administrative Trooper for the Capitol District after the merger with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Frank was selected for this position for many reasons. Mainly due to the fact that he had a 15 year career in Grocery Retail Management and had previous experience with mergers. Frank was quickly tasked with important projects. One of which was putting together a training program to teach state employees how to increase their chances of surviving an active shooter incident.

In over three years Frank taught well over 5,000 state employees and was invited to the 2015 Judges Judicial Conference to present his program to over 150 judges. During Frank’s career in law enforcement he became an Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training General Instructor, Arizona Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO). Frank has completed the Arizona State University Certified Public Manager Course (CPM), Advanced Supervision for the Law Enforcement Leader and Arizona Department of Public Safety Leaders in Training (LIT).

With all of this talent, skill, expertise and passion for helping others, Frank founded the newly formed company, REACT Respond Effectively Against Credible Threats.

Frank is married to his beautiful wife Luz. They have been together since 2008 and they run a successful Real Estate Team at Realty ONE Group. They have a wonderful daughter named Jasmine. Frank also has two older daughters named Catherine and Abigail. Frank loves spending time with his family and helping others achieve their goals and dreams.

LADIES LEADERSHIP CIRCLE Arizona YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix

In 1858, YWCA formed in the United States with women’s residences opening in New York and Boston. A long history providing social services and creating a platform of equality led the YWCA to Arizona in 1912. YWCA Maricopa County’s (YWCA) mission is dedicated to eliminating discrimination, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Since 1912, YWCA programs have educated, advocated for, fed, and provided vital support to vulnerable members of our community. Our clients are low-income women and their families, seniors, and disabled adults in Maricopa County. The specific community issues YWCA programs address are elderly hunger in Glendale, financial instability, and empowering women.

Last year we served 612 unduplicated seniors through our congregate meals program, 588 unduplicated seniors through the YWCA Meals on Wheels program and 70 unduplicated seniors received rides through YWCA assistance to the Dial-A-Ride program. We provided over 10,870 rides to seniors and disabled. Each weekday, nearly 1,200 seniors receive a nutritious, hot meal through our services. Annually the YWCA serves over 100,000 meals to seniors and disabled. The YWCA also provides over 1,800 programs and activities to seniors and disabled.

In addition, more than 516 women and teens graduated from the YWCA financial education program, Own It. The graduates learned strategies and gained tools on how to increase their financial security and their family’s stability. We provided Own It free of charge to over 40 other non-profits and organizations. The YWCA works collaboratively with other non-profits and organizations to change the lives of financially disadvantaged women and the families in our community.

Each year the YWCA hosts the Tribute to Leadership. More than 350 guests attend annual the Tribute to Leadership Gala where 10 Community Leaders were honored. Last year, 550 people attended the YWCA Women’s Empowerment Series Luncheons, and 298 women attended the Young Women Forum events for emerging professionals. Total number of people touched through all YWCA programs for 2016-17 was 2,497. The YWCA is proud of our accomplishments and positive and lasting effect on the lives of so many in our community.

LEADERSHIP LOWDOWN WITH CHRIS SHARFNER AND DEAN KATRIS
Chris Sharfner is originally from Chicago. He graduated in the top of his class and passed on a basketball scholarship to Xavier and an academic scholarship to Purdue. Instead, Chris took the opportunity to serve in the United States Air Force as a member of a Special Ops unit.

Chris spent four years in the USAF jumping out of airplanes. After he got out he became a broker for Merrill Lynch. After about a year, he realized that he didn’t want to be stuck in an office all day talking about somebody else’s money.

After Merrill, Chris got into the collection industry and did pretty well for myself. He worked from home for a few hours a day and make fantastic money. Although the industry had a way of making you feel “scummy”, it did have its upside. That is until the day his CEO called him and told him that he made too much money! Chris reminded him that he was in sales so he knew that his boss made 10 times as much as he was making.

“He went on about how he lived in a double wide when he was my age, and at that moment it hit me: ‘one day this guy is not going to want to pay me what I’m worth!’ I decided then that I wanted to work for myself so I opened C and J Professional Cleaning in 2004.”

C and J Professional Cleaning Services provides high quality commercial cleaning and janitorial services in Phoenix and throughout the Valley. When Chris is not working, he enjoys working out, riding my motorcycle and hanging out with my family.

C and J Professional Cleaning Services

Dean Katris owns and operates Power Promotions, LLC, a company that grew from a $300 investment (and no real clear plan to move the T’shirt inventory Dean got talked into), to now serving over 175 casinos and dozens of other companies across several industries – with branch offices in 5 states.

Power Promotions is an innovative promotional products distributor. Promotional products, also known as ad specialties, make up a nearly $17 billion dollar industry and are used by virtually every business in America. Why? Items like mugs, pens and t-shirts are memorable and provide a better cost per impression for advertisers than almost every major marketing effort like TV, magazines and the Internet.

Clearly a born entrepreneur, Dean exemplifies the idea that if you want something enough, and you are willing to give it your all, you can attain it. A Business Economics graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, Throughout his career, Dean has started and successfully operated several businesses in the apparel industry, as a real estate broker, as well as a custom home building corporation.

With his incredible business insight and passion for personal and professional development, Dean also is an expert leadership development trainer for U & Improved, with more than 15 years experience in the professional development industry, Dean has led thousands of individuals to unlock the thriving, successful leader within themselves and their organizations. Dean drives the message of “U the Leader” with heartfelt passion, delivering a life-changing experience to students who are willing to break through their barriers and who want to start living big.

Dean exhibits what he trains in his personal life as well, as a consistent, nurturing father and role model to his four children and family, related and extended. He maintains a balance in his personal and professional life, ensuring his multiple businesses are thriving while being a constant source of love and inspiration to his adoring children.

Sam Levy is one of Phoenix’s hottest young real estate agents. Born and raised in Phoenix, Sam has extensive knowledge of the many markets Phoenix and Scottsdale has to offer. Growing up in one of Phoenix’s most coveted neighborhoods, North Central, Sam has seen and understands the true worth of a beautiful home. Sam has been involved in real estate for three years already, allowing him to become a well-rounded agent. Sam prides himself on his customer service, which he likes to think of more as a concierge. It is not uncommon for Sam to help his clients with anything they need, real estate related or not. Sam’s experience with both buyers and sellers allows him to offer a wide range of expertise, making the difficult decision of buying or selling a home feel much easier. In his free time, Sam enjoys sports, music, and charity work. Also, as an ASU graduate, he thoroughly enjoys cheering on the Sun Devils.

Sam’s skills range from public speaking to market research.  Having worked in marketing prior to real estate, he understands CRM systems, market research, public speaking, and social media.  Since joining the real estate industry, Sam has picked up extensive knowledge of the MLS, contract writing, and negotiating.

Furthermore, going to elementary school, middle school, and high school in North Central gives him a first person view of the schools.

In his spare time, Sam is an avid basketball player and coach.  Sam coaches youth basketball and volunteers as an assistant coach at the Madison Traditional Academy in north central Phoenix. Outside of playing and coaching sports, Sam enjoys volunteering at the Phoenix Renews garden weekly.  Sam sees giving back to the community as a must.

She is also a product spokesperson (Hallmark, Harlequin, Sprint, Cottonelle, Galderma Pharmaceuticals, Match.com), keynote speaker, Professor Emerita of Business, and author of 17 books, including “Don’t Bet on the Prince!” (test question on “Jeopardy”), “How to WIN When Your Mate Cheats” (literary award winner from London Book Festival), and “Don’t Lie on Your Back for a Guy Who Doesn’t Have Yours.” She wrote the weekly “30-Second Therapist” column for the Today Show, the “Ask Dr. Gilda” column for Match.com, and she was the therapist in HBO’s Emmy Award winner, “Telling Nicholas,” featured on Oprah.  She hosted MTV Online’s “Love Doc,” TV shows on TBN, and Fox’s “Dr. Gilda” show pilot.

Dr. Gilda Carle began as a 20-year-old teacher in one of the worst neighborhoods in the U.S., New York’s South Bronx.  She is New York State certified as a teacher, principal, and school superintendent.  She received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, and taught undergrad and MBA graduate students in a New York Business School. Then national TV discovered her.  She was a regular on CNBC for business relationships and she was a Performance Coach for Fortune 500 corporations. The media headline read, “Former Teacher in South Bronx Teaches Street Smarts to Companies.”  She appeared on every national daytime TV show, especially Sally Jessy Raphael, for personal relationships. After each show’s ratings spiked with her appearances, Fox subsidized a TV pilot for the “Dr. Gilda” show.  When not on TV, she was a college professor.  Today, she’s Professor Emerita.

She wrote “Don’t Bet on the Prince! How to Have the Man You Love by Betting on Yourself,” which became a test question on “Jeopardy!” for which she made headlines for her million dollar contract.  She’s now published 17 books.  Her most recent for millennials is “Don’t Lie on Your Back for a Guy Who Doesn’t Have Yours.” Her most recent for business is “One Up Strategies Business Schools Don’t Teach.”  She also wrote the weekly “30-Second Therapist” column for the Today Show and the “Ask Dr. Gilda” for Match.com.

Dr. Gilda is also President of non-profit Country Cures, a 501(c)(3) educational charity that trains Homeless Female Veterans in empowerment skills to make them equipped for the job market.

She says, “Personal relationships are no different from business relationships.  Everyone wants to feel supported and successful. It’s my job to give them the tools to reach those goals.”

Kenny Weiss and ChickTech Phoenix

Kenny Weiss is a Coach, Speaker and Author who is at the forefront of the personal development field. Through his own personal journey and nearly 30 years of studying about the role emotions play in our lives, he brings a one of a kind skill set to the individual or business that is looking for more happiness and success personally and professionally.

Whether you are looking to improve your personal or professional success, your outcome will ultimately depend on what you feel. Not your thoughts, not your plan or your process! Think about it. How many times have you laid in bed thinking and knowing known what to do? You know the plan and the process but you just don’t “feel” like doing it? Maybe it was something you know would make your spouse happier and bring you closer? Something you should be doing for your kids? Or maybe it is career oriented? You want to take a big risk, try something new? Whatever it is, the process isn’t what is holding you back, your thoughts aren’t what are holding you back, it’s the “feeling” that comes up!  As you lay there contemplating making that choice, “you just don’t feel like it.” Well, I have just detailed  where that feeling comes from, why we all have it and how to overcome it in my book, “Your Journey To Success.”

This book bridges the gap to all of the other success books. When you have this skill you can put into place the wonderful tips and processes all the other great success books offer.

Kenny’s clients have included, entrepreneurs, companies, professional athletes, individuals and families who are looking to dig deeper and reach their full potential! They are seeking to make more money, advance in their careers and have deeper more connected relationships with their partner and families.

Athena Valley of the Sun with Dr Kristine Quade and Honoree Dr Eileen Borris

Since the first award in 1982, ATHENA International™, a non profit organization, has honored approximately 7,000 individuals in 500 communities and 8 countries with ATHENA Leadership Awards.  These individuals are committed to their profession, their community and to helping other women achieve their full leadership potential. They embody the attributes of the ATHENA Leadership Model ~ Being Authentic; Building Relationships; Collaborating with Others; Being Courageous; Advocating Fiercely; Constantly Learning; Giving Back and Celebrating.

ATHENA honors the highest level of professional excellence coupled with the values of giving back and the responsibility for opening leadership opportunities for others. Honoring successful women in business encourages others to both envision and strive for their highest potential. The long-term vision is to achieve a balance in the voices of leadership.

Joining many ATHENA chapters around the globe, the ATHENA Valley of the Sun (AVOS) was formed in 2015 with the focus of supporting women as we evolve from leadership at the community or grassroots level all the way to the governing Board of Directors.

AVOS offers the opportunity to experience extraordinary women as role models that exist in each of us. Our purpose is to provide opportunities for sharing stories of overcoming odds, challenging broken systems, taking brave actions, mending polarities or being the calming voice in the shouting of oppositions.

AVOS offerse a unique program for girls in grades 11 and 12 grade to provide them with leadership training. On March 8, 2018 (International Women’s Day), they are hosting the ATHENA HAIL Awards to honor Dr Eileen Borris, six local women business owners and also 10 young girls making an impact in the community.

Dr. Kristine Quade is an internationally recognized management consultant having worked with more than 200 clients in over 20 countries. She combines her experiences and education to help her clients learn how to thrive during times of rapid change. Dr Quade is recognized as a leading edge by her peers, teaches in Masters and Doctoral programs at seven Universities, is a frequent presenter at the international conferences and has published seven books and numerous articles on change.

Dr Quade is currently focusing her efforts on training and placing women on Boards of Directors and utilizing the ATHENA Leadership Principles to strengthen women leaders around the globe. Her areas of expertise includes leadership, team effectiveness, influencing the dynamics of change, global strategic thinking, creativity and innovation, and developing capacity for change.
