E90 Citizen Development with Matt and Mario

In this episode of Project Management Office Hours Matt Hubbard and Mario H Trentim join Joe Pusz – PMO Joe to have an in-depth discussion about the Citizen Developer program.

Matt Hubbard works to bring citizen development programs to organizations using his 20+ years of operational excellence experience. The core of Matt’s success is his belief that process, technology, and people must be optimized together to achieve a lasting result.

“Generically, citizen development is when you empower business people who are not trained coders to solve business problems through the use of low-code/no-code tools, which are tools that basically assemble apps, instead of coding apps. You are dragging and dropping existing elements to assemble the app.” -Matt Hubbard

Mario Trentim is currently Citizen Developer at PMI.org, founder at TRENTIM.com, and Board Member at PMOGA.world. Mario is and Engineer with +15 years of experience managing global projects and implementing Project Management Offices in Latin America, Europe and the Middle East.

“The development for project managers, is not just to build the finance applications or sales applications, it’s also expanding our boundaries outside technical projects to events, to human resource projects, finance projects, marketing projects, and more. When we think about citizen development, an agilest, business analyst, project manager, PMO manager, will be ten times more effective.” -Mario Trentim

E83 Breaking Through Barriers with Erika Flora

In this episode Erika Flora joins Joe Pusz in Project Management Office Hours to discuss organizational and personal transformation, defining your organization’s “why” and developing effective listening, coaching, and facilitation skills. Erika is President & CEO of Beyond20, an Industry Leader, Speaker, and Coach. Erika was also the Lead Editor of the core ITIL 4 publication on “Digital and Strategy”. Erika’s journey has been about exploring possibilities and thinking outside the box “We often make excuses for ourselves, that we can’t do something. Instead, think about the opportunity you have to change your life listening to others and learning new skills.” -Erika

Ask yourself this; are you a glass is half full or half empty type person? Maybe the glass is always full. Listen to hear Erika and PMO Joe discuss and whatever your answer may be, understand there are many ways we can learn in life. However, with learning comes barriers at some point and knowing how to overcome those obstacles will let nothing get in your way. So, go out there and push your boundaries today!

Beyond20 is an organizational transformation accelerator that combines IT professional development and software development with expert consulting to help clients attain their most ambitious evolutionary goals. beyond20*logo

We do this by focusing on the strategic shifts our clients want to make, not just the service management or cyber skills they want to gain. We apply our integrated training, software, and consulting methodologies – all led by industry-recognized experts – to craft skill-building solutions that reflect our clients’ ways of working.

We chart custom paths to success based on our clients’ existing talent maturity and organizational abilities, and we actively manage their progress along that path so they’re free to focus on their core mission.

The result is an organization that’s able to perform at a higher level, deliver more value, and keep pace with demand – goals beyond the reach of just training or consulting alone.

Erika-Flora-Beyond20After starting her career as a microbiologist, Erika Flora became a Program Manager and discovered a passion for improving how organizations manage work and deliver great products and services.

E72 Understanding Design Thinking with Bruce Gay

Are you familiar with Design Thinking? Are you utilizing Design Thinking to run your projects? In this episode we chat with Bruce Gay, Founder of Astrevo to understand the fundamentals and benefits of Design Thinking as well as touching on several other topics.

Bruce is a leader in the PM Industry and is an active community builder. He is a PMI Volunteer with PMI Pittsburgh, leads a Healthcare PMO, teaches part time at Norwich University and started his own firm, Astrevo. PMI-Pittsburgh-logo

In our discussion Bruce shares that Design Thinking allows groups of people to take time and look at their customers needs to deeply understand a problem and to start to brainstorm and down select solutions to solve those problems. The benefit to using Design Thinking is you get closer to your customer’s needs and pain points to help you identify defects earlier in the process which is less expensive than defects found later in the process.

We also hear Bruce’s perspective on trends in the industry and a few of his favorite books he recently read. We also learn about Bruce’s Project Management Insights monthly list of updates and insights within our industry.

E61 – Details of the Dramatic Changes to the PMBOK 7th Edition

Are you familiar with the upcoming changes to the PMBOK? What do you think will be the impact to our profession and community? In this episode Cyndi Dionisio and Mike Griffiths share the details on the PMBOK 7th edition update.

After 50+ years and 6 editions of the PMBOK, PMI is taking the PMBOK 7th edition in a different direction. The changes to the Standard and Guide are meant to align with the evolution within the industry. The working draft is a move towards a Principled-based Standard to apply regardless of your delivery approach.

A focus of the 7th edition is to move from Outputs to Outcomes. This is a significant change to the approach as the Knowledge Areas and Process Groups will no longer be in the PMBOK. We learn instead about the 12 Principles and Performance Domains. The key point of the discussion is that the PMBOK is undergoing a major re-write and will make a significant impact on our profession and industry.
