What started as a weekend side hustle making furniture, grew into some custom carpentry in customers’ homes. As the reputation of the organization grew, so did the demand for minor interior renovations. From there, the projects and demand continued to grow. Today e36 is quickly becoming one of Georgia’s premier design build firms specializing in kitchens, bathrooms, and full home renovation.

About Richard Grove

Richard Grove, Host, Organization Conversation

Richard Grove‘s background is in engineering but what he enjoys most is brand building through relationships and creative marketing. Richard began his career with the Department of Defense as an engineer on the C-5 Galaxy Engineering Team based out of Warner Robins. While Richard found this experience both rewarding and fulfilling, he always knew deep down that he wanted to return to the small family business that originally triggered his interest in engineering.

Richard came to work for the family business, Dekalb Tool & Die, in 2008 as a Mechanical Engineer. At the time Wall Control was little more than a small ‘side hustle’ for Dekalb Tool & Die to try to produce some incremental income. There were no “Wall Control” employees, just a small warehouse with a single tool and die maker that would double as an “order fulfillment associate” on the occasion that the original WallControl.com website, which Richard’s grandmother built, pulled in an order.

In 2008, it became apparent that for the family business to survive they were going to have to produce their own branded product at scale to ensure jobs remained in-house and for the business to continue to move forward. Richard then turned his attention from tool and die to Wall Control to attempt this necessary pivot and his story with Wall Control began. Since that time, Richard has led Wall Control to significant growth while navigating two recessions.

About Wall Control

The Wall Control story began in 1968 in a small tool & die shop just outside Atlanta, Georgia. The first of three generations began their work in building a family-based US manufacturer with little more than hard work and the American Dream.

Over the past 50+ years, this family business has continued to grow and expand from what was once a small tool & die shop into an award-winning US manufacturer of products ranging from automobile components to satellite panels and now, the best wall-mounted tool storage system available today, Wall Control.

The Wall Control brand launched in 2003 and is a family-owned and operated business that not only produces a high-quality American Made product but sees the entire design, production, and distribution process happen under their own roof in Tucker, Georgia. Under that same roof, three generations of American Manufacturing are still hard at work creating the best tool storage products available today.

Proptech’s Role in Innovating AZ’s Real Estate Market E26

Arizona’s business-friendly environment, weather and affordability have made it a hot spot for tourism and inbound migration for decades. But in a post-pandemic world where an estimated 269 people are moving to Arizona each day, the real estate market is experiencing an unexpected surge in demand that is affecting the availability of affordable inventory.

The May 2022 episode of the Arizona Technology Council’s AZTechCast podcast featured proptech experts including Ryan Egan, founder and CEO of Stackhouse; Bill Gleason, vice president of business development at ApostleTech; and Dusty Parsons, chief marketing officer at Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona. These leaders joined Karen Nowicki, president and owner of Phoenix Business RadioX, and Steve Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council, in exploring technology’s role in discussing the innovative technology solutions that are helping to stabilize Arizona’s housing market.

Throughout this hour-long episode, this panel of experts spoke about the pandemic’s unprecedented impact on the national and local real estate market. With the rise in remote work, workers were no longer tied to a physical office space and could disperse across the country, moving from urban metropolises like New York City and San Francisco to more affordable states more commonly known as “flyover states.”

This influx of new residents into Arizona, combined with the hesitancy to overbuild left over from the 2009-2010 recession, means that the state is still severely lagging in housing stock, particularly affordable housing stock. This shortage has inevitably pushed technologists and innovators into reimagining the real estate solutions that can help alleviate this social problem.

Stackhouse is a patent pending technology that allows you to take your container home with you no matter where you move.

Ryan-Egan-AZ-TechCastRyan Egan has been working in real estate since the age of 9 when his father started taking him to property showings. His first “real job” was filing for Larsen Baker. He worked for Bank of America but in 2008 he left banking and moved to the other side of the table negotiating short sales for his clients and other agents.

In 2009 he joined Heights properties, the real estate arm of Brake Masters. Starting in property management he quickly added site selection and construction management to his list of responsibilities.

In 2012 he was acquiring and repositioning non-performing assets in San Francisco when the idea for Stackhouse first came to him. Since starting the company in 2017 Stackhouse has been a first-place graduate of the UofA Forge incubator, and UACI.

In 2021 Stackhouse graduated from the Highly selective TechStars Anywhere program. He is currently scouting for property in Austin Texas with his solar-powered shipping container model home and his 3 Humane Society Specials.

About The Messy Middle Podcast & Radio Show

The-Messy-Middle-logo“Beginnings are usually scary, and endings are usually sad but it’s the middle that counts the most.”- Hope Floats

We often talk about the beginnings and endings of things. We celebrate our firsts and mourn our lasts. We often ignore the in between, or what we like to call the messy middle. In this nebulous space, often there are no awards or recognition.

It is frequently characterized by the long days, hard work, uncertainty, self-doubt, small wins, setbacks, persistence, and sheer determination to simply keep moving forward. And, yet, it is also where the magic happens. The middle part of our journey is what shapes us, prepares us and fills our lives with meaning.

Welcome to the Messy Middle Podcast & Radio show! Each month we invite guests to share their own version of the Messy Middle and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.

Whether you’re in the messiness of growing a business, healing from trauma, or navigating the wild world of parenting; this show is for you! We’re so excited to celebrate the messiness of life and business with you!

Made in AZ: The Rise of Arizona’s Manufacturing Sector E19

Made in Arizona. It’s a phrase that is becoming more familiar as the state’s manufacturing sector continues to grow and add a rapidly increasing number of manufacturing jobs. Between the development of technologies improving efficiency and reducing costs, automation of manufacturing processes and a business-friendly climate, Arizona’s manufacturing landscape is being recognized on a national stage.

In the Arizona Technology Council’s October 2021 episode of AZTechCast, Mike Buseman, EVP and chief operating officer at Benchmark; Brett Dooley, technical sales engineer at In-Position Technologies; and Mike McCormack, president and CEO at CP North America joined Phoenix Business RadioX owner and president, Karen Nowicki, to discuss the rapid evolution and development of Arizona’s manufacturing sector.

Throughout this hour-long episode, this panel of experts explored the various factors that have contributed to Arizona’s rise in manufacturing over the past decade, the newest technologies manufacturers are utilizing to improve efficiency and reduce costs, the automation being implemented to compete with foreign sources and the largest manufacturing challenges they are facing in a post-COVID world, particularly around supply chain and talent acquisition and retention.

William Lorentz, Owner & Head Lizard, Wiz Graphics

William Lorentz, Owner and Head Wizard, Wiz Graphics
William Lorentz has worked in the advertising industry for his entire adult life.  His first art job came in high school when his art teacher recommended him to the people at the local hockey arena who needed someone to paint sponsors’ logos on Plexiglas lightbox faces.  He pursued a degree in graphic design and parlayed that into a 25+ year career in commercial graphics that culminated in the creation of Wiz Graphics – the ultimate graphics shop.
He preaches an ‘objective-based’ design approach in which a design’s aesthetic, copy, imagery, colors, and message all revolve around accomplishing a goal.  This design approach took off like wildfire because, well, it just works.  William is great at writing copy, communicating ideas visually, and understanding the art of subtext in advertising.  Today his work can be seen in stadiums, at the Mall of America, at convention centers, at trade shows, in businesses, and on countless vehicles.
