How High-Capacity Leaders Can Navigate Deep Impact Experiences Without Their Business Falling Apart: Diana Murphy on Moving Beyond the “Push Through” Culture (The Price and Value Journey, Episode 158)

Diana Murphy, a certified life coach who works with high-capacity leaders, joins host John Ray on The Price and Value Journey to discuss navigating deep impact experiences. These are the moments that shake your sense of who you are—divorce, illness, losing someone you love, but also changes that are supposed to be good news like retiring, selling your business, or leaving corporate to start your practice.

Diana explains why these experiences create disorientation rather than just stress, what happens when high-capacity people hit their tipping point, and why the “push through” culture most leaders have been rewarded for is exactly the wrong approach. The first steps involve honoring the gravity of your experiences, recognizing when you need outside support, and understanding why investing time in emotional work yields significant clarity and groundedness.

Diana also explains why service professionals whose expertise is mental need this work most, how disruption affects your ability to serve clients, and why the advisors who take the best care of themselves grow the best businesses. This episode will help you recognize when you or someone on your team needs support and see why slowing down to process emotions actually leads to better business decisions.

The Price and Value Journey is presented by John Ray and produced by North Fulton Business Radio, LLC, an affiliate of the Business RadioX® podcast network.

Key Takeaways You Can Use from This Episode

  • Deep impact experiences create disorientation, not just stress. When high-capacity leaders hit their tipping point, they wake up every day and things aren’t like they’ve been.
  • The “push through” culture fails during deep impact experiences. Grief, despair, and deep sadness can’t be pushed through without consequences like burnout or shutdown.
  • Even good changes create identity shifts. Even though you choose to retire, sell your business, or leave corporate, these changes often bring unexpected grief and disorientation.
  • Honor the gravity of your situation instead of rushing to feel better. You don’t need positive emotions to make good decisions.
  • Get resources when you’re overwhelmed. High-capacity people often wait too long because they think they should handle it themselves.
  • The investment of time in emotional work multiplies your clarity. When you process and stay grounded in your values, every decision you make has a longer-range impact.
  • Service professionals, whose expertise lives in their heads, need this work most. When you’re disrupted emotionally, your ability to serve clients suffers.

John Ray at Barnes & Noble with his book, The Generosity MindsetJohn Ray is the author of the five-star rated book The Generosity Mindset: A Journey to Business Success by Raising Your Confidence, Value, and Prices, praised by readers for its practical insights on raising confidence, value, and prices.

If you are a professional services provider, your goal is to do transformative work for clients you love working with and get paid commensurate with the value you deliver to them. While negative mindsets can inhibit your growth, adopting a different mindset, The Generosity Mindset®, can replace those self-limiting beliefs. The Generosity Mindset enables you to diagnose and communicate the value you provide to clients, which allows you to price your services more effectively in order to receive a portion of that value.

Whether you’re a consultant, coach, marketing or branding professional, business advisor, attorney, CPA, or work in virtually any other professional services discipline, your content and technical expertise are not proprietary. What’s unique, though, is your experience and how you synthesize and deliver your knowledge. What’s special is your demeanor or the way you deal with your best-fit clients. What’s invaluable is how you deliver outstanding value by guiding people through massive changes in their personal lives and in their businesses that bring them to a place they never thought possible.

Your combination of these elements is unique in your industry. There lies your value, but it’s not the value you see. It’s the value your best-fit customers see in you.

If pricing your value feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar to you, this book will teach you why putting a price on the value your clients perceive and identify serves both them and you, and you’ll learn the factors involved in getting your price right.

The book is available at all major physical and online book retailers worldwide. Follow this link for further details.

Leta Brooks/Status Home Design

Hey everyone! Thanks for joining me here at “Status Life with Leta“.

That’s all on paper (well more on the computer nowadays). What I’m passionate about is helping people create spaces they love, traveling the world, and encouraging others to live their best life. I would give anyone the shirt off my back, but I’ll also be the first to set anyone straight. It’s a quality that can rub many the wrong way. I say what I mean and I wear my emotions for all to see. I don’t apologize for it. That’s all me and also, why I’m here. You can ask me questions about anything. I may not be an expert on everything, but I’m here to help and willing to try. My journey hasn’t always been easy, but through faith and perseverance, I continue to design my life. Stay here with me and let’s continue to #designalifeyoulove.

because Event Space (“because” stands for beauty and events for a cause), is a family-owned Phoenix event venue that gives back to seven local charities in a major way.

The space’s success is largely due to its generous heart. For every event booked in the Phoenix event space, 10 percent of your booking cost goes back to a charity of your choice. Patrons can choose becauseLogoBLKGRYfrom seven different charities – The Arizona Humane Society, Children’s Cancer Network, Owl Love Your Forever, Vet Tix, Phoenix Rescue Mission, Hustle Phoenix or Chrysalis. If a nonprofit books the space, 10 percent of their booking cost goes back to their own charity.

In addition to giving back, because is focused on enriching the space with local art from dozens of Valley artists. The walls are lined with original, colorful works that brighten the clean, stunningly decorated space.

The space itself has so many flexible options for events, from weddings to film screenings. There is a theater, cocktail space, rooms for brides and grooms to get ready, business meeting spaces and much, much more.

because is the passion project of the Sweet family, who truly live up to their name. The family owns automätik, the award-winning, all-encompassing automotive training facility directly next door to because.

Dominique-Hypolite-with-because-event-space-on-Business-RadioXWith a past life as a dancer and musician and over 15 years of customer service experience, Dominique Hypolite is a kind of because renaissance-woman performer/musician/logistics genie. Known to friends as Dee, she is as inimitable as they come! Born in Germany, and raised in Beantown, this Southie has been all over the map—Chicago, Houston, and Missoula each hold a spot in her heart, but more recently Dominique calls Phoenix home. No stranger to the spotlight, Dee is not afraid to bust a move when the mood strikes her, reliving her stint dancing with the prestigious Boston Ballet, no doubt. Whether ballet to breakdance to coordinating the fine details of an event, Dominique has got all the right moves!

Born with a servant’s heart, Dee has spent most of her life giving back, volunteering for many charities, and organizations. From balancing several events into perfect harmony, to finding the perfect florist, Dee has a lock on all things logistics. She’s here at because to help make your vision become a reality! Taking charge behind the scenes, and serving as a “human arrow” from time to time, has opened her eyes to a career that fits her creative, eclectic personality to a “T”. Through all the chaos that comes with event support, Dominique still finds time to relax and enjoy her family. With two amazing kids, plus all things because, there is never a dull moment in her life—and she wouldn’t have it any other way!

Keeton, Anne 2Return guest, Anne Keeton, Founder and President of Grief to Relief, defines grief as “conflicting feelings about a change or end to a familiar pattern or behavior”. While we commonly think about grief in relation to a death, catastrophic injury or illness, grief can surprise us in many more mundane circumstances, like a child going to college, a move, or a change in health status. Sometimes the change can be a good change, but creates mixed emotions in an individual. This is a form of grief!

Handling grief is like having a flat tire. It doesn’t fix itself. There are certain key steps that need to be taken in order to repair the damage. And no one is immune. It will happen to you! And often, loss breeds more loss – “when it rains, it pours”! Listen in as Anne provides some advice about developing a Grief Recovery skill set.

For more information about Grief to Relief, contact Anne at (678) 653-5513, or email her at Anne@GriefToRelief.com. Note that Anne has a new Grief Recovery group class starting on June 23. It will be held in her office in Peachtree Corners.
