When Trace Blackmore started getting information out of his head and onto paper, great things happened in his business. His 16-year-old industrial water treatment company has defied the small business failure odds and he attributes some of that longevity to having procedures that remove guesswork and promote high standards. In this episode, Trace shares his process for identifying and documenting key standard operating procedures (SOPs) and more importantly, hacks for getting people to actually follow them.

Conrad Meertins attended St. John’s University in Queens, New York for his Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Computer Science and Master of Science in Mathematics (M.S). After moving to Georgia, he received his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A) from Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Conrad also have many technical and leadership certifications such as Oracle DBA Masters and CCNA.

While living in New York, he was an Assistant Vice-President at Citibank/Citicorp Brokerage and Manager at Salomon’s Brothers Brokerage on Wall Street where the software he helped to write traded billions of dollars on a daily basis. In Georgia, Conrad held various leadership roles at Sprint, Center for Disease Control (CDC), Internet Security System (ISS) and HD Supply to name a few. His love for the community led him to be on the board of directors for South DeKalb Churches Federal Credit Union for many years.

As CEO of FamTeck and 25 years in Information Technology, Conrad brings a wealth of experience in disruptive technology as it relates to Database Security, optimization and doing more with less.

Conrad’s spiritual faith, love for the community and members of his family with different types of disabilities allowed him to embark on developing MyAbilities. Telisha Farrow Jackson brings her engaging personality, as well as, over 15 years of experience in managing all levels of large scale projects to the SBDC. She has an extensive and varied career in multiple industries, including lending and underwriting; business development; project management; compliance and controls.

She has initiated negotiations, partnership initiatives and cost analysis for businesses majority of her career. Her expertise lies in analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of program operations to ensure that strategies can be effectively and efficiently executed.

One of her most rewarding professional experiences was developing young minds as an elementary school teacher. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, she developed curriculum and led multiple school-wide process improvement and best practice initiatives.

Telisha has used her people skills to build community involvement and awareness by participating in various community outreach events and professionally moderating conferences. She is an inspiring talent and we look forward to the innovative outlook she’s going to add to the UGA SBDC at Georgia State University team.

Girls in Tech was born out of a need to provide a place for women to cultivate ideas around their careers and business concepts involving technology and entrepreneurship.

Girls in Tech offers a variety of initiatives for women and girls to enhance their professional aspirations. Our programs include Catalyst Conference, Lady Pitch Night Competitions, GIT M (Mentorship Program), GIT Hackathons, Bootcamps, XChange, GIT Work, and Global Classroom.

Melissa-Drake-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXMelissa Villegas Drake is a STEM teacher at Shadow Ridge High School in the Dysart Unified School District and is also a Co-Managing director for the Phoenix Chapter of Girls in Tech. Working as an engineer for fourteen years with the aerospace industry and semiconductor industry, she has enjoyed those experiences but she gets more satisfaction out of mentoring and teaching.

Because they focus in Title 1 schools, many of their 600 students live in trauma caused by low income, language, transportation, multiple families dwellings and immigration.
