BRX Pro Tip: Audio vs Text Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] And we are back with Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, you and I have gone on record for years now on the virtues of audio versus video, but let’s talk about audio’s relationship to text.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:17] Once again, I think audio is the engine for most content creation. And in our environment where you’re face-to-face talking and creating relationships, it’s an even better way to do this. Audio, to me, is better than text because people never get talker’s block. They might get writer’s block, but they never get talker’s block. In our studio, we create so much content and bring out from our guests, helping them articulate their messaging, and helping them get the word out about the good work, and capture their stories, and capture kind of really great information from them in a comfortable manner is so much easier than it is if you told them to just write a whitepaper about what they know.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:07] We can capture in a matter of minutes everything that they know in a very conversational, authentic, passionate manner; whereas, if you told them to go home and just write the same stuff they just told us, it would kill their weekend. It would just be a terrible thing for them to do. Most people would hate doing it. And what we’ve done in our world is capture the information. And guess what? In a matter of minutes, it can be transcribed. And they got all the words, and they can get all the SEO and all the benefit of having the text that you need in order to drive traffic to your website. You can get it in an audio manner painlessly, easier, simpler, and a lot more fun.

Stone Payton: [00:01:52] In the last 21 minutes, you and I just crafted eight Business RadioX Pro Tips. We plan to do 10 this afternoon. We did it in 21 minutes. What if you and I told ourselves on Friday afternoon, “Go home. You write four, I’ll write four of these eight Business RadioX Pro Tips,” how much of our weekend would’ve been invested doing that?

Lee Kantor: [00:02:11] Right.

BRX Pro Tip: Audio vs Video Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] And we are back with Business Radiox Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, let’s talk about the mediums. Audio versus video, where do you stand?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:13] As you know, I have a bias towards audio, and I have a bias towards audio done in the way that we do it – in-person, face to face in a room. The reason, to me, that audio is better than video is that you can take audio and turn it into video. But what you create in the room with face-to-face, with headphones, and microphones, no distractions, a level of intimacy and safety that you cannot create with video. Video, for a large portion of the population, creates anxiety, It creates fear. It makes him self-conscious. Audio with headphones, everything melts away. There’s no—they’re not looking at their phone. They’re not worrying about what their hair looks like or if they have a stain on their shirt. They’re happy to be here. They are immersed in the conversations. And then, they get content that, then, can be repurposed into video if they desire. That, to me, is why audio is a better choice than video.

Stone Payton: [00:01:12] Well, I agree. And you don’t have to take our word for it. Go out and listen to a video interview of any one that you can find where they have a video interview and an audio interview somewhere, and see which one of those is more authentic, is more real, is more listenable, the person is more comfortable in their own skin. And the depth of information shared in that exchange in audio versus video, there’s almost no comparison.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:36] And then, if you want to layer onto the production hassle the video has over audio, then it becomes really a non-issue because there is so much more complexity when you’re recording video. And to create something—video is show, not tell, by definition. It’s supposed to be visually interesting. And most video interviews are just a static shot of two people talking to each other, and there’s nothing visually interesting happening on the screen. So, to me, you’re just creating a lot of complexity and a lot of hassle for not that much of a benefit when you can take the audio in a comfortable environment like ours, and then just add slides and add visual elements to make it visually interesting.
