Founded in 1994 by Mr. Carlton A. Brown, Occasional Occasions by Carlton has been repeatedly praised for its culinary displays, dynamic flavors, and unique table presentations. Chef Carlton is the owner of Occasional Occasions by Carlton LLC, a boutique style, custom catering company, specializing in Contemporary Southern cuisine and providing off-premise catering for the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. He obtained his Bachelors of Science Degree in Culinary Arts Management from the Art Institute of Atlanta. Occasional Occasions is also a minority, veteran and certified LGBT owned establishment.

Chef Carlton was voted the #3 Cater in Atlanta for 2009 in The Best of Atlanta featured in The Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine. Laurens Eckleboom/Parkmobile

Laurens is an international business development executive and has held senior positions in the financial, IT, and parking industries. Recently, he played a key role in the launch of mobile payment solutions in several European countries, and then duplicated that success in the US when Parkmobile asked him to launch a start-up in Atlanta. Under his strategic direction, both companies became industry leaders in a few years. Widely recognized as an industry leader and innovative thinker, Laurens joined IPI Board of Directors in 2012 and is co-chairing the Smart Parking Alliance and International Committee. In 2014 he joined TAG Mobility Board of Directors.

Laurens holds two Masters degrees, one in Business Marketing from TIAS NIMBAS Business School and one from Utrecht University in International Relations. He completed the Executive Retailing Program at Santa Clara University and serves as a guest lecturer at several universities.

Virginia Mason has worked in the housing industry for the past 14 years working directly with families seeking to establish themselves economically and become self-sufficient. Her housing career came as a direct result of her previous experience as a teacher. Initially working with housing residents to obtain their GED and gain life skills, this parlayed into a position as a Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator. As an FSS Coordinator, Virginia linked families with community resources to assist them with employment, homeownership and other life goals. Virginia is excited about the new Circles initiative which taps into people’s dreams and goals for a better life and then provides additional motivation and support.

Dacia Dickey/Resident Services Corporation of DeKalb

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Dacia Dickey attended Coppin State College. She then began working with children with special needs. That led her to an eight year career in the housing industry, including stints with Baltimore City Housing, Public Housing, Atlanta Housing Authority, DeKalb Housing and Resident Services Corporation of DeKalb.

As an audio professional for over thirty years, Charlie Sill has worked with The Weather Channel, local television in Amarillo, Texas, Total Traffic here in Atlanta as well with many other radio stations across the nation. Charlie grew up in Los Angeles in and around the entertainment industry which afforded him the opportunities to work alongside Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman and the late Robin Williams on the set of “Hook”. He also worked with director Kenny Ortega and Christian Bale on the set of “Newsies”. With his passion for the filmmaking process and his talent for voice over work, Charlie has placed himself at the forefront of an ever-evolving technological field. Philip has been involved in a broad range of community organizations including the advisory committee of the American Booksellers Association.

Daphne Reiley is the founder of Ripples of Grace, a consulting practice meeting communities of faith in their mission to include the isolated. Daphne has found that isolation takes many forms and that communities of faith, in particular, should be but are often not very good at meeting the needs of isolated individuals and families.

Ripples of Grace provides education to organizations desiring to better address ways of reaching out to isolated populations. Daphne offers workshops to professional organizations as well as communities of faith. She also facilitates retreats for pastors, congregational leaders, and groups of individuals.

Along with her favorite co-author Joseph LaGuardia, she is working on a companion book to their previously published “A Tapestry of Love, the Spirituality of Caregiving”. The work in progress – “Taking It to Heart” – is a book aimed at those receiving long-term care.

On this week’s episode we continued our monthly series with IRC Wealth. CEO, Dave Ragland, and VP Business Development, Joe Schum, joined me in studio along with Debi Buckland, a certified therapist and professional coach. Our topic was reinventing yourself.

Many of us adults know the feeling of, “I need to make a change,” when it comes to thinking about one’s job. It’s hard to truly know what your true self is/wants when you’re graduating from high school and selecting an academic and professional path. That means that for a lot of us, we find ourselves wanting to transition to something else that will be more in line with our spirit and personal values.

With his background as a financial planner and wealth adviser, David talked about how important it is for individuals to consider their personal values and wants relating to their quality of life and standard of living when thinking about making changes that will affect their income. Clearly, leaving one’s job to pursue a dream, whether that’s a new career move or retirement will involve a measure of financial risk.

By sitting down with experts such as David when in the planning phase, risk can be mitigated by understanding obligations, getting a plan for debt elimination, potentially making changes in standard of living expenses, and developing a time line that will facilitate addressing these issues as well as allowing the individual to enjoy their new pursuits.

As a therapist who spends much time speaking with individuals who are wanting to make a change in their lives, she talked about how important it is to be moving toward something more than running away from something. We also discussed how important it is to talk to one’s partner about the changes they’re contemplating since they will also affect their life as well.

As we talked through the show, it was clear that all our experts agree–it can be a great thing for us to find The Thing that allows us to be more authentic, more who we really are. And it was also obvious that sitting down with an expert to craft a plan isn’t simply going to end in being told, “No, you shouldn’t do that.” With some diligence and some planning with qualified pros, you might find you can make that transition to the new you sooner (and more safely) than you think.

Tamiko is a member of The National Association of Professional Women, Atlanta’s Urban Professionals, Atlanta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), and Women In The Spotlight GoinGlobal. In 2010 she was featured in Career Magazine’s article “40 Movers and Shakers under the age of 40” and in 2012 received The Atlanta Rising Star Award for her work with the Still Standing Foundation.
