Booth 61 at Digital Ball 2014 with Walt Carter 5 3 2014Dear friend and industry superstar, Walt Carter, was kind to stop by Booth 61 during the Digital Ball reception. Walt has history. As the former COO of TechBridge and now an active Host committee of the Digital Ball, Walt has been an active part of a miracle. I do not believe anyone in the first few years could have ever dreamed big enough to capture what TechBridge has become. TechBridge is changing lives on a daily basis and all of us have Walt to thank for his steady leadership. Please listen to this interview to hear a man who is filled by passion as he serves our community, not because he is paid to do this or it is part of his job. Walt serves because it is who he is on the inside. His heart is a big as all outdoors which you will better understand and appreciate after you listen to his interview. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to make all our citizens experience a better life, Brother Walt!

Booth 61 at Atlanta CEO Council with Sandy Hofmann 3 03 2014What a treat to be able to spend time with the Atlanta Gadfly, herself, Mrs. Sandy Hofmann. Sandy is one of the most energetic and giving people in our Atlanta technology community. Name any organization in this city and Sandy has been involved, chaired, or received it’s highest honor. Sandy’s latest gift to our community is chairing a committee for the Atlanta Regional Commission. Sandy shared highlights of her work on this committee during our time together. Let’s all hope and pray that Sandy and her team are very successful because they will make Atlanta an even greater city for all of our citizens.

Booth 61 with Ben Hendrick 2 7 17 2013

On July 17th, I was honored to have my friend, Ben Hendrick, in the studio. Ben did an outstanding job of articulating the value proposition of the new Dell. I have learned a great deal about Dell since Ben joined the company 5 years ago but I learned a lot more  during our time together in Booth 61. Ben gave a major shout out to Dell SecureWorks and the outstanding company Mike Cote, Tyler Winkler, and the entire SecureWorks team built before Dell purchased their company last year. Dell SecureWorks has become one of the fastest growing business units in the Dell Corporation which makes all of us in Atlanta very proud.

We also talked about the tremendous contribution that Ben and Dell have made to the city of Atlanta since Ben accepted responsibility to be the civic and not for profit advocate for Dell in the Southeast. In my opinion, Ben has become the “Face” for Dell in the Atlanta community. I would venture to say that Ben has more first name relationships with CIO’s in this region than any other Dell executive. A lot of Ben’s growth and success is because of his involvement in TechBridge, WIT, and the GCLA CIO of the Year Awards. Regardless of how many times I praised Ben personally, he would not accept the credit but gave the credit to the entire Dell team and to the culture at Dell. I also learned about the recent establishment of a WISE (Women In Search of Excellence) resource group here in Atlanta to support and help women who are employees at Dell succeed. (http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/uscorp1/corp-comm/cr-diversity-wise).

One of the highlights of our time together was two call in guests. Brenda Holmes, Partner with Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP , and current Women in Technology Board President called in to thank Ben and Dell for the incredible support they have given to WIT, www.mywit.org. That was a special moment only to be followed about 15 minutes later by a call from Carrie Bates Hastings, Director of Corporate Relations for TechBridge, www.techbridge.org. Carrie also thanked Ben and Dell for their above and beyond contributions financially, with equipment, and consulting services. Last year in the Atlanta area over 1, 000,000 people were touched directly by TechBridge and the agencies they serve. Carrie said that would have been impossible if not for Dell and their support.

This was my 20th week of hosting Booth 61 and every show has been special to me. This 20th show was an extreme high peak for me because Ben and I began our relationship about 7 years ago when I was a guest speaker to his MBA Class at Kennesaw State University. I have watched Ben grow from a good technology executive into a real leader in our community. Ben has done an unbelievable job in the last 7 years creating a personal brand that involves hard work, ethical business practices, and a passion for Dell that makes you want to do business with Ben and with Dell. In addition, through the Dell team and the Dell financial contributions to our technology community, Ben is recognized as a key business leader with considerable influence in our community. I am very proud of and for my friend, Ben.

I know you will enjoy this show. I enjoyed listening while we were recording and I have listened to the show twice today. I learn something of value each time I listen.

Carrie Bates Hastings, TechBridge Director of Development

Very special Booth 61 on 5/22/2013:

Carrie Bates Hastings visited to discuss the 2013 Digital Ball. Carrie shared impressive statistics including over 1.2 Million dollars raised on May 11th, 2013. 840+ technologists and over 50 volunteers joined the TechBridge staff to make this tremendous event a great success and the results are nothing short of fantastic. In addition we learned that last year TechBridge donated to organizations that impacted over FIVE Million people. That is mighty high cotton where I come from for sure. Carrie also broke the news that Mr. Jay Ferro, CIO of the American Cancer Society will become the TechBridge Chairman in July of 2013. Jay is an institution in our community and this is great news for TechBridge and our industry.

We also played 8 interviews that were recorded during the opening reception of the 2013 Digital Ball at the Marriott Marquis. Interviews shared during our time together today included Charles Brain Quinn, CEO of Big Nerd Ranch///Walt Carter, CIO of Generation Mortgage///Scott Hall, CEO of HUNTER Technical Resources///Jay Ferro, CIO of the American Cancer Society///Jean Holley, CIO of Brambles///Mike Neumeier, Principle and Co-Founder of Arketi///Carrie Wheeler, CIO of Cbeyond///Becky Blalock, Author and former Global CIO of the Southern Company///and Sandy Hofmann, Gadfly and Community Cheerleader. These interviews are a powerful testimony of the Atlanta technology communities commitment to our brothers and sisters in Atlanta who need a helping hand. Although this is the longest Booth 61 so far at a little over an hour, we still were not able to include additional interviews that are available on the Booth 61/Business RadioX site.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed my time with Carrie. TechBridge is doing tremendous work in our community. You do not have to be a huge company or a wealthy philanthropist to get involved. Their is room in the tent for anyone willing to help. Contact TechBridge to learn more about how you too can help improve a life in our community.

The 2013 Digital Ball is in the history books. Everyone had a great time and a lot of money was raised for TechBridge. Congratulations to James Franklin, Carrie Bates Hastings and the entire team at TechBridge along with a huge team of volunteers. This was a special night and you made it so.

Booth 61 had the privilege of broadcasting live during the opening reception. We interviewed leading technologists who have been at every Digital Ball and those who were attending for the very first time.

I was thrilled my long term friend, mentor, and coach Becky Blalock visited Booth 61 during TechBridge’s 2013 Digital Ball. What can I possibly say about Becky Blalock that has not already been said many times. Becky is the former Global CIO of The Southern Company and has held more volunteer leadership positions than anyone I know. I have had the privilege to serve under Becky when she was the Chairman of the Board for Leadership Atlanta and the IT Initiative for United Way. An advocate for women and children, Blalock was recognized as a Power Woman by Atlanta Woman Magazine and received the Shining Star Award from the Atlanta Women’s Foundation. Blalock was also honored with the 2011 Legacy Award from Women in Technology and the Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia CIO Leadership Association. A graduate of Leadership Atlanta and Leadership Georgia, she was named a Fellow of the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation in 2001.

I know you will enjoy hearing Becky share her thoughts on TechBridge, The Digital Ball and her new book, DARE. You can pre-order DARE on Amazon now. You do not want to miss this book: Dare: Straight Talk on Confidence, Courage, and Career for Women in Charge
