Financial Infidelity: The Hidden Threat to Marriages, with Kathy Healy, Healy Wealth Management, a clip from her appearance on North Fulton Business Radio with host John Ray

Financial Infidelity: The Hidden Threat to Marriages (One Minute Interview, Episode 133)

During her recent appearance on North Fulton Business Radio with host John Ray, Kathy Healy of Healy Wealth Management addressed a growing concern in marriages: financial infidelity.

Healy noted that money consistently ranks as the primary source of conflict between married couples. She defined financial infidelity as behaviors ranging from “squirreling away money” and making undisclosed purchases to more significant financial deceptions.

The solution? Regular, transparent communication.

Healy shared that some of her clients have implemented structured financial check-ins. One couple calls their weekly session the “MOM” meeting—Meeting of the Minds. While Healy acknowledged that weekly might be excessive for many (including herself), she emphasized that monthly financial conversations should be the minimum standard.

Even when one spouse handles the day-to-day financial administration, Healy stressed that both partners must remain informed and engaged with their shared financial picture. This transparency builds trust and ensures both spouses understand their current situation and progress toward goals.

For couples discovering fundamental differences in their financial priorities, Healy offered a practical exercise: Have each spouse separately list their top ten financial goals, then come together to discuss. This approach creates space for both perspectives before moving into the essential work of collaboration and compromise.

The wisdom extends beyond avoiding arguments. Financial transparency builds something far more valuable: a shared vision that honors both partners’ needs and concerns.

By maintaining open financial communication, couples can avoid the damaging effects of financial infidelity and build a stronger foundation for their future together.

Being Both Charitable and Profitable at the Same Time, with Jason Etheridge, Logic Speak, as heard on ProfitSense with host Bill McDermott

Being Charitable and Profitable at the Same Time, with Jason Etheridge, Logic Speak (One Minute Interview, Episode 129)

Jason Etheridge:  I do think it’s possible to be both charitable and profitable.

But you have to decide that first. You can’t be profitable first and then decide to be charitable. Because we all know the more we get, the more we feel like we have to hold on to it. Being charitable for us is like opening our hands and recognizing that not everything we have is for our use and for our benefit.

And that was one of the reasons that we added to the community in our mission statement is that we wanted to recognize that we always are out for. Helping and serving other people including our community so in order to be profitable and charitable, you have to decide first you have to put the big rock in first Secondly, you have to recognize that maybe you don’t want that Ferrari that you thought you wanted when you were young You can still be profitable and healthy and give back as well.

At the end of my days, when I’m up at the front of a church in a casket, I don’t know that the cars that I drove or the really nice things that I have are going to be what I’m remembered for, or at least I hope not. It should be, what I did and how I impacted other people.

Those are some of the ways that, that we think about being charitable and profitable.

The Fundamental Breakdown Between Sales and Marketing, with Sean Shannon, Strategic Growth Design, as heard on ProfitSense with host Bill McDermott

The Fundamental Breakdown Between Sales and Marketing, with Sean Shannon, Strategic Growth Design (One Minute Interview, Episode 128)

Sean Shannon: The fundamental breakdown between sales and marketing, as I have seen it in my time, is an understanding of the ideal customer profile.

In other words, marketing oftentimes is providing leads to the sales team that are of no use to them because marketing doesn’t understand what the sales ideal client profile is. And sales is guilty in that because they have not fed to marketing what that looks like. Peter Drucker’s famous for saying that the vast majority of businesses have no idea what their customers are buying.

They know what they’re selling to them, but they don’t know why the customers are buying it and for what use. And so I like to approach my, my, when I start to talk about value proposition with sales and marketing teams, I like to talk about the idea that we don’t necessarily buy products and services as much as we hire them to do jobs for us in our lives.

And if we can untangle what that job is, that whatever product or service we’re selling is that the customer’s hiring it to do for them in their business, we’re going to end up with an alignment between sales and marketing of both understand what that job is.

Redefining Workplace Communication, Ken Madren, PermaTherm

Redefining Workplace Communication, with Ken Madren, PermaTherm, Inc.

Ken Madren: One of the things that we’re doing at PermaTherm that is helping mitigate some past misunderstandings and miscommunications on the common words is we delete them. We don’t use the word “work” because work has so many definitions.

Can you believe that? Can you believe that the word “work” has more than one definition? It literally has a very definition from each person who walks in the door, what time does my day start? What time is my day in this is how I would work it. This is how you would work it. I’m working and they are.

So we change the names of things like that, that are critical paths and processes. And we make some pretty silly names out of things like work. For example, that word when we talk shop is now “keyholing.” It’s time to keyhole. What’s that? And we may be talking about progressing projects through our pipeline.

You would typically go work the pipeline. And there’s a lot of different ways to work the pipeline, but there’s one way at PermaTherm. And we’re talking about working the pipeline, but our best practices require that we keyhole The pipeline. When you do that, you destabilize everybody who’s supposed to keyhole the pipeline because no one knows what that is.

But when you build that definition together, everybody knows what that is. And we’ve found that to be an insidious eroder of progress. And we’ve found that simple element of take a word that everybody knows. Throw it in the trash can as it relates to critical process and come up with a new word and everybody define it together.

Now, really only a few people are leading that discussion, but you will find when it’s a word like keyhole, everybody wants to understand it because their job is, and everybody does add a piece or there. And in the end you, when you’re talking, everybody knows what you’re talking about. So in my career, it seemed like the silliest of things to do.

Everybody knows what work is. It’s been one of the most productive things. And there’s other instances like that, but that’s just one example of language and what we all think is good communication and how it can impede progress within your organization.

The Power of Laser Metal Fabrication, with Dee Barnes, Evans Tool & Die and Evans Metal Stamping & Laser Cutting

[00:00:00] Dee Barnes:  So this past year we added the laser metal fabrication division, which allows us to do low volume. We can do one of something or 500 or 5000 of something without having to build a die, which takes, 10 to 12 weeks to build that tool. So quick turnaround. We have ability to serve our customers and I’m excited about the future of our company in that way because now our high-volume customers, they also have low volume work prototyping things that we can add value to our current customers.

[00:00:29] But we also can do all kinds of things that aren’t even in our metal stamping side, which just comes with laser and welding and fabricating anything. And I’m excited because it’s endless. There’s unlimited creativity you can have with metal fabrication. You can build and make anything. If you can cut it and weld it and bend it, you can make just about anything.

[00:00:51] And that’s exciting because when our customers come with an idea, you can just fab it up and see if it works. And it works. And hopefully your volume gets so high that you turn into building a die to make something. So that’s exciting for us.

What Can a Financial Planner Do For Me?

What a Financial Planner Can Do For You, with Chris Caldwell, Highland Trust Partners

[00:00:00] Chris Caldwell: To build a team for a client to make sure that if they have a CPA and a corporate attorney and a state attorney and insurance agent, maybe an investment advisor somewhere else, but the, all the bankers, but these people, they may have them, but they’re not talking to each other.

[00:00:13]  My role as a planner is to basically bring this team to the table. To talk to each other about the different circumstances our client is going through and how can we pull resources together to make this stuff happen for them to fix what’s broken or what’s not being done.

[00:00:28]  We come up with the strategy solutions, basically get it ready to sign almost in some cases, and they’re not pulling a lot of time away from work to do that. Once they see where you don’t take their time, they’re energized. They’re excited to know they don’t have to do a lot, but we’re going to get to know them personally and ask them personal questions.

[00:00:45]  We’re also going to get to know their families well. As I think importantly for planning for business owners, also knowing. What they need in their family. Their spouse, knowing what they have to bring home one day. Okay, so that energizes them knowing we involve the family with that.

[00:00:59]  Once they know the time we save them. They know we’re putting the resources together. Make sure we reduce the risk in their lives. They know that we’re probably adding, we’re definitely adding more valuation to the business by doing this, maybe saving on other things, tax strategy, return on investments and others.

Finding Trade Technicians, with Barry Adams, Peachtree Awnings

Barry Adams: And we don’t have a thousand employees, but we always need one, two good trade technicians. And so whether it’s welding or project management, construction management or installation technicians we can find those, but you really and I told my HR manager, When you build these relationships with an institution like Gwinnett Tech, you can’t be one and done.

You gotta show up all the time, if they have a job fair. You can’t just be a fair weather friend. You have to be there all the time because they’re in the business of placing their students. They’re in the business of finding jobs for their students. And we help assist that and create that pipeline for people coming out of their technical school into Peachtree Awnings.

And it’s really, it’s took a little time, took a little time, but like any relationship you’ll get out of it, what you put into it. And I feel like what we get out, we’ll get from the tech is a times 10 kind of relationship. So it’s been really awesome.

Using Social Media in the Construction Industry, with Jonathan Strack, Strack, Inc.

Jonathan Strack: In our industry, my view was stay off social media because you don’t want to attract any needless attention to what you’re doing. It’s already risky business.  But anything that’s on a social media platform, that’s your best attraction and retention tool. And that really legitimizes what you’re doing now.

We’ve gotten business based off our social media presence, especially when we started grading, we’d been primarily a pipe contractor, most of my life. And as we started doing earthwork, that was a definite change in perception for the industry. And. as we were trying to win some work, I’d have conversations with really large clients and said, Hey, we see what you’re doing on social media, you look like, you know what you’re doing, we trust you, you’ve been in business 70 something years.

And we’ve worked with you before in other places. Hey, come on we’re willing to give you a shot. And that really perked me up and surprised me. So I’ve become. A lot more open to exposing ourselves to what we do. And I think, the other piece is, you got to be willing to accept some failure and learn from it.

Sure. That we’ve definitely had some of that along the way.

John Ray [00:00:00] I want you to give some specific advice, people that are on a podcast and how to best showcase themselves as a guest on a podcast.

David Doerrier[00:00:12] Well, number one is what I feel, and it’s also the same that I also encourage people when they create a presentation. It’s not about me. It’s about what is it that I can bring to my audience?

What benefit do I, can I bring to my audience? What can my audience learn from my past mistakes or my, my career. It’s not about me. It’s about what I can do for others.
