On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Healthy Skeptic Robert J Davis PhD. Robert is an award winning health journalist whose work has appeared on CNN, PBS, WebMD and the Wall Street Journal.  He debunked all those myths about sunscreen. Robert explained that there is a lack of FDA regulation of  sunscreen. So there are very often misleading claims on the the sunscreen packaging.  He shared tips on which sunscreens are safe and which are a rip off. He also explained that any sunscreen over 30 spf is pretty much overkill. According the Consumer Reports the best sunscreen is a brand from Target not one of those expensive designer brands. Instead of relying on sunscreen to protect you – go old school and wear a hat and cover up, stay in the shade and wear black. To learn more about bogus health claims please buy his book The Healthy Skeptic. Cutting Through The Hype About Your Health on Amazon and go to his website www.everwell.com

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to safely bring your kid to the gym and learn about strength training. Kids love going into a gym because their are lots of machines they can climb on that they have never seen before. So once your kid is at an age that your gym allows them to use the equipment you should begin introducing him/her to the gym. The adult should always demonstrate the exercise first and then assist and spot your child as they do the exercise. Start with very light or no weight until the child learns how to do the exercise with perfect form. Be very supportive and try and incorporate exercises that use your child’s body weight along with exercises that use weights or machines. And relax weight training has not been found to stunt a child’s growth.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. The Emotional Side of Succession and Estate Planning

June 16, 2010 by angishields

Estate planning for the family-business owner encompasses much more than developing tax strategies.  What’s at stake is the survival of the business itself—often the sole source of the family’s wealth.

There is often a forgotten component, that when omitted, can result in a perfectly drafted estate plan that ends up embroiling the survivors in court battles for years.  That factor is the emotional and very personal side of planning for the future of the business and the future of the family.

Without addressing the underlying emotional issues that often reside just below the surface before you focus on the technical aspects of estate planning, your time and money may be wasted and your plan may be doomed.

Our guests today, James Robinson, Partner, Schiff Hardin LLP, and Stephanie Brun de Pontet, Ph.D., an associate of The Family Business Consulting Group, Inc. bring a wealth of first-hand experience helping family business owners address both the psychological and legal aspects of succession and estate planning.

Tune in at 1:00pm on June 17th to learn first-hand how you can ensure a successful transfer of your business and your wealth.

Our guests:

James Robinson

James RobinsonJames R. Robinson focuses his practice on the wealth transfer and business succession planning needs of families and closely-held businesses. He concentrates on estate and gift planning, business succession planning, wealth preservation, sophisticated  tax planning, and charitable giving.

James is the author and co-author of numerous publications on his area of expertise, including his most recent article, “The Sea Change in Generational Wealth” published in the June, 2010 issue of Private Wealth and Financial Advisor magazines.

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Pete Thomas from the Biggest Loser TV show. Pete did such a great job living this new healthy lifestyle that the morning after the competition ended he went out for a 90 minute run. And when he came back the other contestants asked him if he ever turns it off – and he said he doesn’t because an active lifestyle is now just part of his daily life.  Pete walked away from the show $100,000 richer because he lost the most weight out of all the contestants that season. The amazing things about that weight loss success story is that he lost 123 of the 185 pounds while working out on his own. When he was voted off the ranch he knew that he had all of the tools to lose the weight on his own and sure enough he did. Pete also gave us a glimpse behind the scenes of the Biggest Loser TV show – he shared some stories about fitness trainer Jillian Michaels and he revealed that the contestants are put through a vigorous training regimen for weeks prior to filming the shows – we’re talking 4 hours of exercise 6 days a week for weeks so they can get in good enough shape to do the activities on the show. After going through this experience Pete feels that there has to be a different weight loss plan for people who are extremely overweight – he said that the weight has to come off fast in order to keep the obese person motivated so he has written a book titled Lose Big to help those people who are extremely overweight. To learn more about his amazing weight loss success story please go to his website www.winningman.com
