Lost Our Home Pet Rescue with Founder Jodi Polanski and Co-Host Barbara Barnstead

The mission at Lost Our Home Pet Rescue is to provide compassionate services to pets and people in crisis. Founded in 2008 in response to the economic downturn and, more specifically, the Phoenix area housing market crash, what began as a grassroots, foster-based network to rescue pets abandoned as a result of foreclosures or evictions quickly evolved into a resource to help those at risk of losing their pets due to life circumstances or financial hardships.

Lost Our Home has 6 programs that are designed to prevent pets from going to overcrowded shelters where they face an uncertain future and to keep pets with the families that love them. Their Adoption Program rescues and finds new loving homes for abandoned and owner surrendered dogs and cats. Their Temporary Care Program provides up to 90 days of pet care for individuals or families who are experiencing a life challenge or crisis such as job loss, homelessness, domestic violence, illness, injury or hospitalization. Their Pet Food Bank provides pet food and supplies to those who are temporarily unable to afford them.  Their Pet Friendly Rental Program has a network of realtors who locate rental properties for more difficult to place pets due to breed restrictions or number of pets, then they donate 100% of their commission to cover pet deposits. Their Low Income Boarding program, offers low cost boarding for those who are unable to afford traditional boarding rates. And they operate a Pet Companion Shelter on the campus of Sojourner Center, one of Arizona’s largest domestic violence shelters, so that families fleeing abuse can keep their pets with them while they heal. Since 2008, they have helped more than 22,000 pets. This includes finding loving homes for over 4,500 cats and dogs. Reuniting more than 750 pets with their families following a crisis and feeding over 17,500 pets through their Pet Food Bank.

JodiPolanskiwithLostOurHomePetRescueonPhoenixBusinessRadioXJodi Polanski has been involved with animal welfare for more than 14 years. Prior to her career in the non-profit sector, Jodi spent 16 years in sales and management in both the retail and mortgage industries.  Jodi founded Lost Our Home in 2008 in response to the thousands of pets in need as a result of the economic downturn and Phoenix-area foreclosure crisis. At the time, Jodi was working in the mortgage industry and saw firsthand the devastating effects the housing crisis had on people and pets. During that time, many pets were abandoned in foreclosed homes, often times without food and water. In response to the growing need, Jodi launched Lost Our Home Pet Rescue.

From heartbreak to hope, from extreme crisis to loving care, Jodi has used her extensive past business experience to create an innovative and efficiently operated pet rescue center that helps people while saving pets. In 2011, Jodi received a scholarship from the Arizona State University Lodestar Nonprofit Management Institute and earned her Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Management. She has also been the recipient of many achievement awards throughout her career, and was most recently named an “Outstanding Woman in Business” by the Phoenix Business Journal in 2016. In 2015, she was honored as “Business Woman of the Year” by the Tempe Chamber of Commerce.

GrayShitz Marketing with Sage and Associates

Story Behind the Name

We sometimes tell people that we met at a bar and while getting to know each other, we learned of each other’s last names (Gray & Lifshitz) and thought it would be crazy to do something with it…  “GrayShitz” was born and now we needed to do something with it.

Well, truth be told, we’ve known each other for a number of years and recognized two things: 1) we complement each other’s skills sets when it comes to branding and marketing; 2) we see a gap in the marketplace, specifically, how people and companies do not consistently figure out how they brand themselves… all by getting rid of the fuzziness and yuck from marketing.

So, we formed GrayShitz, and yes, GrayShitz is a funny (great, interesting, creative) name, right? You’ll be thinking about us all day. Maybe you’ll tell someone else. Now we’ve got you thinking! That’s branding.

About GrayShitz

Heidi navigated her way through her own 90 lb weight loss journey after surgery, making her a perfect fit to help educate, support and manage the growing Emergent Community. Together, these style & beauty professionals are excited to share their knowledge and passion for women to help them become more successful as individuals.

The driving force behind this company, according to Personal Stylist Ash, is working to address the ever-growing dilemma of women who, plagued by culture shoving impossible standards of beauty in their faces, are increasingly left confused, isolated and feeling inadequate. Ash has a passion to help women understand and love their bodies and how to work with their shape instead ofHeidiBeaverwithTheEmergeForumonBusinessRadioX against it to style themselves. She wants women to embrace their inherent beauty and to learn to see themselves in a new light. For those in the Rapid Weight Loss community, the focus is on:  loose skin, hair loss, and drastic body shape changes, and figuring out how to not only dress an ever changing body, but to extend the life of their clothes while dropping up to 10-15 lbs per week. The goal for these workshops is to help participants boost their success in their long term weight loss goals through style and confidence. Ash firmly believes in their company’s slogan “Knowledge = Confidence = Success” and is excited to help participants realize and achieve their weightloss goals in this unique fashion. For the Mamas, they host a workshop called “Just For Moms” that focuses on the issues facing moms as they move into this new phase of life and identity. They target such issues as: style for breastfeeding, self-care, and being confident in themselves as women.

The Emerge Forum

The Emerge Forum will be launching new workshops for women in 2018 and Ash- Personal Stylist is thrilled to be publishing a workbook to compliment these workshops and help expand on the teachings the participants receive. Their Facebook group: The Emergent Collective is their online community of women where the panelists can interact with the members, offer encouragement and style advice, host in-person meetups, and continue to foster a sense of community.

WHY BEST OF HEALTH?

I am a Physician Assistant who has been caring for patients for over 20 years and Family Practice (cradle to grave) is my specialty.

Following the footsteps of three generations of family practice physicians (my father, grandfather and great grandfather) this was a natural and genetic calling that I do not regret.

Given this, I have a unique perspective and it’s time to share that perspective through Ask the PA. As a health care provider, teacher, business owner, patient, and advocate for my family and friends throughout the years, it has been painfully apparent there are disconnects within the current state of health care in the US and throughout the world. It can be confusing and frankly very scary.

It is my goal though this series, Best of Health, to bring people together that are passionate about their roles in the business of health care… and yes, whether or not you want to hear that it’s a business, it is — and that’s the fact. I will introduce to you great, dedicated practitioners and people with a passion for getting the word out about their personal journeys and causes. I will provide information about navigating through a confusing system, asking the right questions and share ways for saving money and time along the way.

It’s time to create change by partnering, empowering, and focusing on the patient, their families and their providers of care. It’s time for you to take the driver’s seat rather than leave your health care solely in the hands of entities such as insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industry.

Stay tuned. Here’s to your Best of Health.
