Brice Fogle/ Revive Consignment

Jubilee Church established Revive Consignment in 2007 in Woodstock, GA to demonstrate that the church is more than just a meeting on Sunday but it should affect society itself. From the first day Revive Consignment opened, the hope was that not only would homes or clothing be “revived” but families, marriages, finances, and lives themselves would be “revived” by the grace of God.  In this desire to make a difference, not only in the store but also in tangible ways within the community, part of the proceeds goes to helping the homeless and the needy in the local area.

In February of 2014, with a lot of help from the existing Revive Team, Brice pioneered the effort to open a second location of Revive in Smyrna. We did this to build relationships in the community and plant another location of Jubilee Church in the Smyrna area. Our philosophy is that customer service is our number one priority and we hope you will find authentic friendliness from each and every employee. We realize that everyone who walks through our doors has a story, just as we all do, and it is with this in mind that we desire to know and care for each person. In prayer, God highlighted to the founders that Revive would be a place where many would come simply because of its very atmosphere. Free coffee, cookies, and wi-fi is offered in the coffee bars of both locations and people are welcomed to relax and visit with us, meet up with friends or bring their laptop and use the space as a quiet place to work.

The nature of the business at Revive is that of consignment . Simply defined, consignment is selling an item for someone else and receiving a percentage of the sale price for doing so. You will find that Revive is unique since we offer an abundance of high quality clothing, home decor and furniture all under one roof in each of our locations. We so appreciate our consignors and think they would agree that consigning is a safe, simple process and a great way to earn some extra money. We even offer a furniture pickup and delivery service!

We will be celebrating 8 years as a company on Saturday June 6th, 2015. It has been a wonderful journey, and we have really enjoyed participating in the Cobb County business community over the last year four months. The city of Smyrna has been a great host and the Smyrna Business Association has been a great welcoming organization to help us make business connections in the community. Jubilee Church now has two small groups that meet in homes throughout the week in Smyrna, and we hope to launch a Sunday meeting sometime next spring.

Dan Penick / Campbell High School IB Program Coordinator

After an extensive application process, the International Baccalaureate Program opened in the fall of 1997 as a Cobb County magnet program at Campbell High School. The IB Diploma Program is a comprehensive, pre-university course of study that incorporates international perspectives within a rigorous core curriculum in both the math/science and humanities areas of the curriculum. The International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland bases the program on the concept that upper secondary level education should encompass a broad range of subjects, which accommodate diverse student interests and intentions while consistently adhering to high academic standards. Consequently, only schools officially approved by the International Baccalaureate Organization are authorized to offer the IB curriculum, which is not based on any specific high school graduation requirement or the graduation requirements of any one country. Instead, it is an advanced program for students who want to participate in a challenging academic environment that gives them a global perspective on people, cultures, history, and events while meeting the highest academic requirements for admission to top colleges in the US and abroad. Therefore, the student who satisfies the demands of the IB program demonstrates a strong commitment to learning, both in terms of mastery of subject content and in development of the skills and discipline necessary for success in a competitive world.

Stacy Shuker

Should Atlanta establish itself as the driver of innovation and connection for the Southeast? In this edition of Global Leader Radio!™, Dr. Stacy Shuker joined Alvin C. Miles to discuss the burgeoning life sciences industry and the leadership needed to expand the focus of biotech  from local to regional.

Here are seven takeaways from our discussion:

  1. When it’s broken, leaders fix it!

  2. Never let them see you get angry.

  3. Get comfortable with the fact that sometimes you won’t be right!

  4. Mentoring doesn’t always have to be formal to be effective.

  5. Listen more and talk less!

  6. Alone time is important.
  7. Achieving success doesn’t have to be “cut-throat.”

Listen in as Stacy explains how the industry has progressed and what’s needed to help realize its potential. Add her insights, tips and resources to your leadership toolkit. Leadership IS a conversation!

Dr. Stacy Williams Shuker/ President, Down South Innovation

Dr. Shuker has been a part of Atlanta’s innovation community since 2006. She started as a scientific advisor in an intellectual property law firm and as a volunteer in Georgia’s innovation non-profit organizations.

In 2008 she moved to the Georgia Department of Economic Development as the Director of the Center of Innovation for Life Sciences. It was there that she pioneered the use of social media in economic development after her marketing budget was cut by $85,000 during the Great Recession. It was from this social media base that she created a virtual community of life science innovators from across the Southeast that she still uses today. Downsouthinnovation.org provides regular updates on news and events from across the Southeast to its 1000 registered members.

As Director of Partnership Development for Georgia Bio, she initiated an industry outreach program, which resulted in several multi-billion dollar companies visiting Georgia’s research universities. Her partnership development firm, Down South Innovation, now connects clients with academic and corporate decision makers of the life science community in the Southeast.

She has chaired and served on several committees of Georgia Bio, Southeast BIO, Southeast Medical Device Association, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and the MIT Enterprise Forum of Atlanta. She is also a strong supporter of StartupLounge.com – an Atlanta based organization that pairs emerging companies with qualified investors. Dr. Shuker devotes her professional volunteer efforts to making the Southeastern region a thriving ecosystem for innovation and commercialization.

Dr. Shuker completed her undergraduate chemistry degree at the University of Georgia and went on to get her Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon.
