Safe Mode with Co-Founders Chris Curley and Rachel Stoddard along with Consultant Chris Bray

Safe Mode is an organization dedicated to providing education and training to members of the community, and law enforcement, about how to address the dangers facing children online. Topics available include sexting, child pornography, luring a minor for sexual acts, cyber bullying, sex trafficking, and furnishing harmful images to minors. Audience-specific programs are specially Safe Modetailored for parents or guardians of children, school-aged minors, and law enforcement investigating these internet-based crimes.

The founders of Safe Mode, as well as all instructors, have worked or are currently involved in law enforcement investigations of internet crimes involving children. Experienced investigators, as well as state and federal prosecutors, will share their knowledge and expertise regarding how online crimes occur, how to protect children from being victimized, as well as how to best support and communicate with children regarding these issues. Because of their extensive law enforcement background, presenters can also speak to investigators currently working in the area of Internet Crimes Against Children and provide practical guidance on how to recognize and minimize secondary trauma.

Presentations can be made at schools, parent organizations, community centers, assemblies, church groups, or any other organized settings designed to educate the community. Resources will be provided to attendees in the form of brochures and information packets regarding the material presented.

chris curleyAfter Chris Curley retired from a 23 year law enforcement career, he started Triple Helix Investigations in 2016, which offers Background Checks, Lab Based Drug Testing and Aptitude Assessments to any size employer nationwide. Because of his background in the field of Internet Crimes Against Children, Chris also offered Internet Crimes related presentations.

In 2018 Chris separated his business services from the Internet Crimes presentations and founded Safe Mode, Inc. Safe Mode is a pending non-profit organization providing Internet Crimes Against Children presentations to children, parents/guardians and law enforcement personnel nationwide.

Mike Sumpter/Xyity

Mike Sumpter, the CEO of Xyity, has been in the technology field for over 22 years as a technician, engineer and technology director for K-12 school corporations. He grew up in a home of educators as both his parents were teachers. His mother taught elementary education for over 25 years and his father was a 7th Grade Science teacher for 47 years.

Early in his career, he was a computer technician at Plymouth Community School Corporation. Later, he started a software training company for K-12 school districts in Indiana, and then became a Technology Director in a school district, which had always been his dream.

In 2001, he became one of the youngest Technology Directors in the area at Union-North United School Corporation. During his 10 1/2 years at the Union-North, they were an early adaptor of 1:1 initiatives in Indiana

After being at Union-North, he joined an Indiana company called Five-Star Technology Solutions. He serviced 11 school districts as their Technology Director, mentor or technical resource. He played a critical role in assisting eight very unique 1:1 environments, which provided Mike with a multifaceted approach to developing 1:1 implementations. Based on this experience, Mike decided to form his own company Xyity.

Through Xyity, he provides districts throughout the United States Virtual Chief Technology Officers (vCTO) for K-12 schools. It has been through Xyity that he has been able to reach out and assist all districts with their technology and 1:1 needs and assessments.

“Beyond the Cupola” allows invited customers, community, and team members of Oconee State Bank to have an opportunity to share their stories of success and inspiration, and/or how the Remarkable culture of Oconee State Bank has inspired them to mark lives in their own right.

Larry Campbell & Caleb Stevens/Corners Outreach

Corners Outreach is a 501c3 that strives to increase high school graduation rates and improve career opportunities for families.

A study from Northeastern University found that high school dropouts cost taxpayers $292,000 over the course of their lives. In the communities where Corners Outreach focuses, the Board of Education in DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties states that High School graduation rates are 70% Caucasians, 64% African American, 55% Hispanics, and 35% ESOL.

A recent study shows that students who do not read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma than proficient readers. Corners Outreach can be most effective in decreasing the dropout rate by tutoring elementary age students and showing parents the value of education.

In 2012, Corners Outreach partnered with Berkeley Lake Elementary to begin an education focused program, Corners Academy, which provides after school tutoring as well as a summer camp in Norcross, GA. Soon after they partnered with two other elementary schools, Hightower Elementary and Beaver Ridge Elementary. In 2017 Corners added Norcross Elementary and Kingsley Elementary.

While building relationships with the parents of their students, they found that many had more than two jobs. In 2017, they started Corners Industries, a career initiative which exists to break cycles of poverty.

David White/The Detour Program

The DETOUR Program is designed to assist adolescents as they attempt to navigate through middle school, high school, and all of the challenges that come with that process. It is a transition program with two distinct tracts: the “Alternate Route” is a diversion program, and “My Life” is a prevention program.

The Alternate Route program is a diversion program targeting juvenile offenders and those with behavioral health diagnosis between the ages of 13-17. This program is ten weeks in length and offers mental health treatment, creative, innovative group interventions, and family support systems. After the initial ten week “Alternate Route”, they also provide their 500-hour Reentry Prep which is specifically designed to prepare offenders to be productively involved in their communities and society. The goal of the program is to prevent incarceration and repeat offenses, improve academic performance, and address previously unidentified family stresses that contribute to the youth’s behavior. The “My life” series is another innovative tool used by the DETOUR program to address adolescents involved in risky behaviors such as drug and alcohol use, bullying, teen pregnancy, STDS, and delinquent behaviors – which are all “barriers to their success”. The “My Life” series is broken into three phases and each phase is four weeks in length using a small group format.

Pete Patel/Suwanee Business Alliance

Suwanee Business Alliance fosters the success of local business owners with a serious mind to grow while creating relationships for the future. Founded in 1999, the Suwanee Business Alliance was formed when a group of Suwanee-area businesses banded together to foster communications and commerce among its members, and to help the Suwanee community grow and prosper.

Our show today covers topics from garage floor coatings to increase your home’s appeal and utility, construction consulting services for companies and governments to take the pain out of accounting and reporting, using sophisticated psychometric testing to help your college student make the right choices, to expert advice on how to use social media to promote your business so you don’t do more damage than good.

Al Mishkoff is president of Granite Garage Floors, a residential services company that upgrades garage floors with a durable, functional and decorative epoxy coating system that will give your garage a look worthy of Jay Leno’s garage. With businesses opened in four cities besides Atlanta and expansion plans afoot, other areas will soon be able to turn their dirty, stained old garages into showcases.

Using diamond grinders and a lot of preparation of the floor makes sure the foundation of the home comes up before Al’s durable coating ever comes up. Well almost anyway, he says that his floor is guaranteed to stay down and not peel like acid prepped surfaces with epoxy paint usually do.  With an infinite range of looks you can turn an old dusty garage into a stain proof and easy to clean one.

You can contact Al Mishkoff and find out more at www.granitegaragefloors.com email him at alan@granitegaragefloors.com or call 770-329-1751.

Jo Ann Tuttle started her consulting firm JAT Consulting Services, Inc., 19 years ago and it now helps governmental agencies such as Hartsfield Jackson Airport manage the financial complexities of its $6.2 billion capital improvement program working for International Aviation Consultants LLC. Taking the complex payments, compliance reporting and contracting details for cities and municipalities are another service her firm provides.

The city of Dunwoody is an example where her company handles all finance, budget and purchasing activities for the newly incorporated city. We’re all different and understanding those differences can help you and your college bound children pick the right major and school the first time and save frustration and money later on. That’s what Brittini and her team do for families grappling with college choices and costs.
