Cristina Chalanczuk was born in Argentina and raised in California.  She has been married for 35 years, 25 of those years were lived in Argentina.  Having to manage household finances in a foreign country opened her eyes to the importance of having a system and saving as much money as possible in order to enjoy the finer things in life.  Cristina has a political science major and has had two other successful businesses: The Language Studio (teaching English as a second language) and VIP Travel Company (travel agency based out of Argentina).  All her businesses have thrived due to her “systems in place” strategies.  Best Coupon Club came about after finding herself back in the USA and with three college students.  Since she was raised in the USA by her parents, who were immigrants, she saw the American dream from the bottom up and knew that it was alive and well today.  She also saw that there were many resources that were unwisely used and immensely beneficial to people who had a household to manage, one of them being coupons.  Her three part system to save you upto 50%+ has made a difference in many of her clients’ household.  The system is devised in such a way to make saving money as effortless as possible.

She is in the process of designing a website for member use.  Members will have access to not only coupons but where to go to get the best deals.  The site will also have a page to help you decide what to do with the money you save as well as financial advice on a page that will be called “Ask Dan”.

Her motto is the ever true if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Kolleen Edwards Chesley has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry and spent the majority of her career as a financial advisor. In that role, Kolleen was responsible for finding her own clients and quickly learned the value of networking, networking, and even more networking. It was in 2004 and during her sales career that she, along with two other professional business women met for lunch with the purpose of helping to motivate each other after Hurricane Ivan had blown through our area and changed not only the physical landscape of the area, but also impacted the business landscape as well. Out of that lunch was born what is now a thriving not-for-profit organization for business women.

Kolleen currently serves full-time as the Founding Director of what was originally called Women’s Business Lunch and is now known as Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast. The organization advocates a culture of confidence building, lifelong learning, collaboration, empowering others and a spirit of charitable giving.

The mission of Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast is to promote, advance and improve women in business and the organization accomplishes these in a number of different ways.

–          Monthly networking meetings in Pensacola and Gulf Breeze. These are open to all women and are free to attend. We run a structured meeting with open networking, an educational segment, a sponsor presentation, an opportunity to hear about the businesses of all attendees, and a whole lot of fun. We frequently hear from attendees that these meeting are chock full of value and a great way to build new relationships to help support their businesses. The Pensacola meetings include lunch paid for by our sponsors.

–          Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast Magazine. We have produced 4 editions of this print magazine. Each edition features interviewees of local successful leaders in business who share their honest thoughts on leadership, success, obstacles, and inspiration as it relates to women in business. We also include other articles on leadership, networking, and other skill development. It is geared for anyone in business or looking for business motivation and tips. Our goal is for this to be a quarterly publication, however the magazine is currently on hold as we explore graphic designers. Our latest edition can still be found on our website.

–          Annual Pursue Your Passion Women’s conference. To help celebrate National Business Women’s Week, we hold a full day conference during the third week of October along with several other events leading up to the conference. We feature a national keynote speaker, several local successful leaders in business, along with Speed Networking, an Experience Hall, structured and unstructured networking exercises and plenty of laughter, relationship building and excitement. Our attendees are not only motivated by the conference but they leave with tangible tips they can take back and implement in their businesses to lead them to success. For 2018, our conference will be held on Wednesday, October 17th and Thursday, October 18th, 2018 at Sanders Beach.

–          Power Up Challenge is a 12 week educational series where we hold classes once a week for two hours. Classes focused around four main areas of business: Networking, Marketing, Business Efficiency, and Sales Skills. Open to men and women and all classmates receive the full audio recording of each class along with class notes, expanded notes, and extra resources. Remote classes also available. Classes are affordable and attendees are elated with the amount and quality of the information that is shared.

–          Women in Leadership radio podcast show – sponsored by Pensacola Business Radio X. We hold monthly shows featuring local community leaders and other men and women in business. We engage our guests in conversational style in-depth interviews. They share their advice on topics such as mentoring, keys to success, time management tools, personal mantras and favorite inspirations, and what men can do to help support women in business.

–          Membership in Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast is also available.

Contact directors@powerfulwomengulfcoast.com for more information or visit our website at www.powerfulwomengulfcoast.com or Facebook at “Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast” for all of our meeting information.

Jocelyn Evans, Host-Mistory

– Next Exit History is a product of Three21 Innovations that started at the University of West Florida and has since become a privately held company. We still have a relationship with UWF through special projects and the Innovation Institute.

– The App content covers the US and some sites in other countries. Content has been created by UWF affiliates through projects and our Partners, such at the Historic Pensacola Village, the Swan Valley Historical Society and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

– We see Next Exit History as a bridge for demographics as well as a way to provide for accessibility.

– Mistory is about true crimes (mainly unsolved historical murder mysteries) that occurred in our region. The first whole season is about crimes in Pensacola. Mistory is a collaborative effort involving faculty and students across multiple disciplines for every stage of the research and production process.

– The purpose of Mistory is not only to provide engaging listening entertainment for our audience but also to make public history come alive by rooting it in a site-specific familiar context.

– The first season covers Hank Killam who was implicated in the Kennedy assassination by conspiracy theorists, couples murdered in the 1920s and 1930s while “parking” in remote Pensacola spots, and the legendary Whitmire Ghoul.

– Mistory podcast is committed to pushing the boundaries of storytelling and technology. We experiment with different storytelling approaches on the show, with strategic circulation of archival documents on social media, and with beacon technology in the field to geolocate sites of interest. Each story is different, and we aim to make each one the best it can possibly be.

– Mistory is truly the result of a collaborative effort across wings of the UWF institutional family. It is supported through the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, the Innovation Institute, the Historic Trust, and Next Exit History. We appreciate the support of these partners and the enthusiastic support of our listeners.

The word South is not a bad word. I was raised here my entire life, starting in Tallahassee and now residing in Panama City. The word South is a culture, not one of a negative nature but one of the exact opposite. I was taught respect, to say yes sir and no mam. To help an elderly person take their groceries to their car. To hold open that door, to always have ladies go first. To show a woman respect. I was taught to turn the other cheek. To have family dinners every night and talk about our day. To support one another and one’s community. To be a better man. This mentality is not just in the South. It is a mentality that is world wide, but I learned it here in the South. The man above in the picture is a close family friend. A man we call uncle in my family. He is a retired fire captain from Detroit. There is rarely a man as good as him. Here is a man who served his community for many years, never asked for anything, and only looked for a way to make it better one day at a time. His wife was telling me a story one day, a story that truly speaks to the Southern way of life. She couldn’t find him one day, had been calling him and wondering where he was. He was bagging groceries and helping the elderly take them to their car. He didn’t work at the grocery store, he didn’t do it for money. He did it because it was the act of a good man. Because he is a good man. Something you don’t see anymore. Something that we have long forgotten. Something that we need to bring back. The word South is not a negative word. We just have to show the world what it really means. Fishing has brought me back to that mentality. To the right mentality. Help someone, do something right, do something to make someone understand that good people do exist. When you buy a shirt, or a hat, or anything else, wear it with pride. Wear it with respect and be that better person. Show the world that the word South, is something to be proud of. Something everyone should have a little bit of in them.

Alabamians and Floridians are increasingly feeling the effects of diabetes as thousands of people suffer from the disease, and many others may have diabetes and not know it! It is estimated that one out of every three children born after 2000 in the United States will be directly affected by diabetes.

That is why the American Diabetes Association’s South Alabama/Northwest Florida office is so committed to educating the public about how to stop diabetes and support those living with the disease.

State Priorities

Health Insurance and Affordability

  • Ensure public and private health insurance options, including those under the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, provide affordable access to the physical and mental health services, medications, devices technology, and education necessary to meet the needs of people with diabetes and prediabetes.
  • Oppose efforts to repeal or create loopholes in laws in 46 states and the District of Columbia mandating diabetes coverage in state-regulated insurance plans.

Discrimination

  • Safe at School: Ensure students with diabetes are medically safe and have access to the same educational opportunities as peers without diabetes. Legislation and regulation focus on:
    • Permitting students who are able to do so to self-manage their disease.
    • Making sure trained school personnel are available to perform routine and emergency diabetes care tasks.
  • Law Enforcement: Support efforts to train law enforcement officers about diabetes.
  • Driver’s Licenses: Ensure laws and policies for private and commercial licenses result in fair treatment of people with diabetes.

Health Disparities

  • Specific initiatives to reduce the disparate impact of diabetes in minority communities.

Prevention

  • Primary prevention of type 2 diabetes for individuals with prediabetes and in the general population, including efforts to reduce obesity and improve nutrition and physical activity.

Diabetes Programs and Surveillance

  • Funding for Diabetes Prevention and Control Programs and other diabetes public health programs.

State Coordination on Diabetes

  • Initiatives to assess the burden of diabetes and to develop and implement policy recommendations.

Diabetes Research

  • Support funding for diabetes research.
  • Oppose efforts to limit research opportunities.

ONE COMPANY, ONE MISSION

Written in 1960, our Mission dictates that our first and foremost priority is to contribute to human welfare. Over a half-century later, the Mission continues to serve as our ethical framework and inspirational goal for our employees around the world. It guides our day-to-day work and reminds us that; our efforts are transforming the lives of millions of people each year.

THE MEDTRONIC MISSION

  1. To contribute to human welfare by application of biomedical engineering in the research, design, manufacture, and sale of instruments or appliances that alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life.
  2. To direct our growth in the areas of biomedical engineering where we display maximum strength and ability; to gather people and facilities that tend to augment these areas; to continuously build on these areas through education and knowledge assimilation; to avoid participation in areas where we cannot make unique and worthy contributions. (See Patients for more about our therapies.)
  3. To strive without reserve for the greatest possible reliability and quality in our products; to be the unsurpassed standard of comparison and to be recognized as a company of dedication, honesty, integrity, and service. (See Quality to learn more about our industry leadership in this area.)
  4. To make a fair profit on current operations to meet our obligations, sustain our growth, and reach our goals. (See Investors to learn more.)
  5. To recognize the personal worth of employees by providing an employment framework that allows personal satisfaction in work accomplished, security, advancement opportunity, and means to share in the company’s success. (See Careers to learn more.)
  6. To maintain good citizenship as a company. (See Citizenship to learn more.)
Mission

Yiayia’s Imports LLC.

Our Family

In 1998, my parents, Stylianos (Steve) and Alice Vatsolakis, moved myself and my two sisters, Chrissoula and Katerina, to Pensacola, from Crete, Greece, to purchase Shoreline Foods from Mike Gavallas. My father, Steve, is a FAA Authorized Inspector by trade and is now the Aircraft Maintenance Officer for the Civil Air Patrol while my mother, Alice, retired from the U.S. Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer and, upon retirement, supported my father’s decision in purchasing Shoreline Foods by handling all the business’ finances and books. In 2000 they started importing our Shoreline EVOO and it quickly became a product you could find in most kitchens of Pensacola and the surrounding area. Since then, my father has introduced countless products from Europe and the Middle East.

In 2002, I joined the Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego, CA where I met the love of my life, Maia. In 2006 and 2008 she blessed me with our two gorgeous girls, Lucianna and Ellynne and after five years in the Corps and three tours to Iraq I ended my enlistment. We decided to stay in San Diego for another seven years, at which time we were presented with the opportunity to take over the amazing business Mr. Mike and my father created. In 2014, Maia and I moved our family to Pensacola and started the transition. It took almost 2 years for us to feel ready to take over and in July, 2016 we purchased the business from my father and made it official.

Since moving here, in 2014, my father and I have introduced many new items, including the Greek olive bar, our own brand of wines from Crete, Greece, a great selection of craft beers, and others. Now that my wife and I have taken ownership we plan on improving even more and are very excited about sharing our improvements with all of you.

My parents worked very hard to take care of each and every customer and his/her needs. We plan on working even harder to not only accomplish the same, but also to bring out all the potential this business has, so it can be even more enjoyable for everyone.

We appreciate all of your support and hope to continue being the local grocery/import store you’ve come to love.

Nancy Bullock-Prevot retired from the Navy after 21 years as a Chief Petty Officer, in Cryptologic Technician Collection (CTRC). Her last command was the USS SOMERSET (LPD-25), named after flight 93, which was the last of the 9/11 ships. As a plank owner and first Chief CTRC onboard the USS SOMERSET (LPD-25), she assisted in the building of the Operations Department and OT Division.  As the first Chief for the OT Division she served as principle advisor to USS SOMERSET’s Commanding Officer and the Operations Officer on their security programs and cryptologic matters.

As a retired United States Navy veteran with over 20 years of service Chief Prevot wanted to continue serving her country. As a woman veteran, she believes that women veterans are the ones who are often forgotten. “People forget that women served just like their male counterparts and fall on their luck in the same way”. Prevot wanted to do something to help women veterans that are struggling with varieties of obstacles that have led them to homelessness, knowing that could have easily been her.

In August of 2016, Prevot founded The H.E.R. (Honor, Empower, and Rebuild) Foundation, which she formed to help homeless female veterans who are single. HER is ready to help the homeless female veterans by providing affordable housing and other services that may lead them to establishing successful futures.

We are in our third year of production of the magazine and our goal is for this to be a quarterly publication. For 2017, we will only produce one edition. Each edition features interviewees of local successful leaders in business who share their honest thoughts on leadership, success, obstacles, and inspiration as it relates to women in business. We also include other articles on leadership, networking, and other skill development. It is geared for anyone in business or looking for business motivation and tips.

For 2017, our conference will be held on Thursday, October 19th at Sanders Beach.

The Baptist Health Care Foundation is honored to support the award-winning work of Baptist Health Care’s physicians and team members through philanthropic contributions from members of the community just like you.

With your support, we are changing lives and saving lives every day. The Foundation’s support has touched every one of our patient care departments and Lakeview Centerand, in doing so, impacted the care each of Baptist’s patients and clients receive every day.

Giving to support Baptist has never been easier and we invite you to contribute in a way that is meaningful to you. Your gift may be designated toward a specific department or service area of your choice.

The Foundation is working with Baptist senior leadership to identify several funding priorities for which we will focus on raising financial support. If one department or care area is more meaningful to you, however, we encourage you to follow your heart. The Foundation team is available to work with you to assure that you are able to focus on what is truly important – making a difference with your charitable gift.

We are proud to say that 100 percent of your gift will be applied to patient care, programs and leading-edge technology within Baptist Health Care. The Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, so your gifts are tax deductible. A gift to the Foundation is not just an investment in our community; it’s a choice to invest in life for you, your family and your neighbors. We remain committed to our proud tradition of service to others. We thank you for your support.
