A while back I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Champion skier Michelle Roark on the Chic Perspectives Show, and I wanted to share part of the interview here.

Michelle is an amazing athlete, a World Champion and Olympian skier – and as if that wasn’t enough, she is also a super savvy chic entrepreneur, the founder and president of Phi-nomenal, a perfume line that no only smells good but also has the added benefit of helping maximize performance and really bring out the best of the person wearing it.  What a Phi-nomenal vision!

Michelle talked about how she got the inspiration for her business idea from a conversation with her coach about the importance of being able to utilize all five senses when visualizing the perfect performance.

You must check out her sites at@

Phi-nomenalwww.Phi-nomenal.com
www.VoilaSSP.com

She then used her Chemical Engineering background and her mathematical knowledge of Phi to develop a unique and well-balanced product line designed to empower the human spirit.

Phi-nomenal’s Confidence Natural Perfume Oil and Custom Crystal bottle sold out within a week of being introduced at Eve Boutique in Denver.

Michelle talks about how she balances competing on the World Cup circuit while running her growing company, her recent trip to the White House and her company’s goal of being the scent of the first woman President of the United States.

Michelle has been featured in Business Week, Self Magazine, New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today and Forbes.

You can learn so much from her story and I am so excited to have her interview as part of Chic Perspectives Season One.   You listen to her Chic Tip here.

I been getting exciting updates from Michelle this winter as she continues to rock it out on the ski slopes.  You may also catch her on one her many media appearances:

Feb 13 — NBC live coverage of moguls event 7:00 – 10:30 pm MST
Feb 15 — Fox News Small Business 4:30 pm PST

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to lose weight  while you work with a trek desk. As Dr Jim Levine from the Mayo Clinic talks about the NEAT method for losing weight – humans are meant to move. So if you can create ways to stand up and stay moving throughout your day you can lose weight pretty easily and quickly. This kind of all day movement does not have to be vigorous it can be very casual and you will still burn lots of calories throughout the day. A friend of our Steve Bordley has come up with a TrekDesk. This workspace sits over the treadmill you have collecting dust in your garage. You just set the desk over the treadmill and do your work while walking at 1 mph all day long. So eat up and lose weight as long as you stay moving. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. For example sitting down burns about 15 calories an hour – standing burns about 50 calories an hour and walking at 1 mph can burn over 100 calories an hour. Don’t be the loud cell phone talker unless you have something really interesting to talk about. Do use only the space around your locker – don’t spread out and crowd people in the locker room. Walker, Bart cropped compressedBart Walker grew up in middle Tennessee.  Watching his father’s career in healthcare, specifically working with the elderly in a skilled nursing environment, Bart knew early on that his calling was in healthcare, working with seniors.  Today, Bart is the Executive Director for the Life Care/Century Park campus in Lawrenceville that is comprised of Garden Plaza, The Bridge and Life Care of Lawrenceville.  Representing Garden Plaza, he tells us that this beautiful independent living community completed the campus just two years ago by providing an independent living alternative to the existing communities.  Bart loves his job, and loves the opportunity to learn from his residents, and to participate in their lives on a daily basis.  Schedule a tour a Garden Plaza by calling (770 236-8333, reach Bart directly via email at jbwalker@centurypa.com, or visit them on the web at www.lawrencevilleretirement.com.

Lewis, Lisa cropped compressed Though relatively new with The Bridge (about a year), Atlanta native Lisa Lewis wishes she had found them sooner!  After attending Georgia Southern University, Lisa took and interest in senior recreation, starting her career structuring activities and events for a rehabilitation center.  She notes that “programming and recreation is critical to keeping residents engaged.”  Over the years Lisa has worked her way from Activities Director to her current position as General Manager at The Bridge.  Managing a diverse group of staff and residents, she tells us that every day is different, but she is thrilled to be able to make a positive impact on the lives of so many people.  Contact Lisa at The Bridge by calling (678) 377-8191, or email her at llewis@centurypa.com.  Take a virtual tour here.

Noth, Hollie cropped compressed Life Care Center of Lawrenceville is either a logical next step, or a convenient interim step for residents of the Lifecare campus when they need just a bit of extra care.  Hollie Noth is the center’s Executive Director.  Originally from New Jersey, Hollie attended Southern Adventist University, pursuing a degree in Business Administration.  After an extracurricular student meeting on campus, Hollie became interested in long term care for older adults and eventually specialized her education in Long Term Care Administration.  Like so many others, Hollie’s “light bulb” moment came as a result of volunteering her time and talent.  She will tell you that one of the highlights of her recent career was having one of her residents crowned as Miss Georgia Nursing Home 2009.  Call (678) 442-0777 for a tour of the Life Care facility – you might just see Hollie with her Rottweiler “Rambo” roaming the halls.  Contact her directly via email at hollie_noth@lcca.com, or visit their website here.
