In July 2015, UWF announced the formation of the Center for Entrepreneurship through a $1 million gift commitment from Quint and Rishy Studer. Thanks to the Studers’ generosity, the Center will encourage and support educational initiatives related to entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking while serving as a comprehensive resource for economic innovation for students, industry and community partners.

Duke’s experience in entrepreneurship and economic development includes 25 years at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he worked from 1984 to 2009. He served in a variety of roles in economic development at Georgia Tech, culminating as General Manager for Business Development at the Enterprise Innovation Institute. He also spent four years as Director of the Economic Development Institute, which was named the “best university-based economic development organization in the country” by Innovation Associates in 2005.

Duke then transitioned to the University of Southern Mississippi where he was hired in 2010 to lead the startup of the Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship, a university-based community engagement enterprise. His most recent position was Director for Economic Development and Executive Director for Insight Park at the University of Mississippi. In that role, Duke established a framework for the technology incubator and research park marketing plan and engaged the university community to identify knowledge assets suited for both economic development and university-industry partnerships.

LG 360 Cam Spherical Camera, Lens Mount Built in

All things must be unboxed. And occasionally they must be filmed at the same time.

Said it before, and we’ll say it again. We’re generally not huge fans of the pomp and circumstance that tends to come with taking phones we’ve already seen out of boxes. But sometimes things are special. There was the LG Optimus Black “Unbooking” way back in 2011. Only a few months later we had the bizarre alien head that was part of a promotion for Verizon’s Motorola Droid Bionic. There have been others, of course.

But LG’s back again with the LG G5. It’s as polarizing as it is intriguing. On its own it’s a more-than capable phone. But throw in that it’s got interchangeable modules and that “Friends” ecosystem of accessories — plus a new user interface , and there’s a whole lot going on here.

So to kick things off, LG’s sent us a good chunk of the family. We’ve got a T-Mobile G5. We’ve got the CAM Plus and Hi-Fi Plus modules. And we’ve got the 360 CAM virtual reality camera. They’re all in boxes, of course, and were sent in a case that you just can’t help but have a little fun opening up.

Olivia Rose Jenkins and Joe Moss
Olivia Rose Jenkins and Joe Moss

On this episode of “On the Money”, host Joe Moss talks to Olivia Rose Jenkins from QloudSecure about how cyber threats and online security breaches can affect a small business and how to monitor them.

Olivia Rose Jenkins/QloudSecure

QloudSecure was founded by Olivia Rose Jenkins in 2016 to address the concerns of law firms about exposure to the risks of data breaches, leakage, theft and subsequent liabilities. QloudSecure is a technology consulting services company, offering law firms the strategy, guidance and support they need to migrate to, and continually to successfully operate on, a centralized cloud computing infrastructure. This type of infrastructure offers a turn-key solution for law firms’ explicit needs.

Olivia has over 15 years’ experience in the cybersecurity field with the last ten years as a consultant helping organizations achieve and maintain best security practices to safeguard their assets and comply with regulatory and industry requirements. A love of using technology as an enabler for clients to achieve and exceed their business goals led to an interest in cloud computing.

One of the foremost concerns of a law firm is the threats of exposure, and understandably so due to the following reasons:

• Legacy IT systems are widely in use.

• Data has become more disparate across multiple locations and systems.

• Employees blur the lines between personal and corporate technologies.

• Security awareness is lacking among firm employees and third-parties

• There is a shortage of qualified IT staff to manage it all.

These issues are also very present at any type of small business.

QloudSecure has a proprietary six step process to help you close gaps for good called QloudPrint. It includes discovering your risk, assessing the potential business impact, designing a plan to close the gaps, deploying your security controls and even providing policies and procedures you can use, educating your employees on best security practices to reduce potential going forward, and then managing it for you if you don’t have access to a good IT resource. Everything is customized to your specific environment and tailored towards small to medium law firms.

Metro Atlanta Chamber Driving Bioscience Growth

The Metro Atlanta Chamber exists for one reason – to help Atlanta thrive. From recruiting businesses to tackling policy issues, MAC’s efforts in metro Atlanta are designed to promote prosperity and growth for you and your business.  Georgia’s bioscience and health IT industries are responsible for almost $30 billion in annual reported revenue and 120,000 employees.

The Health IT industry in Georgia already leads the nation with more than 200 companies and more than $4 billion in annual reported revenue and 15,000 employees. The bioscience industry is also firmly rooted in the state, with more than 100,000 jobs and an annual economic impact of $23 billion.

As the national economy rebounds, Atlanta has the potential to create thousands more jobs per year in these two sectors. Whether you’re with a FORTUNE 500 business or putting in sweat equity in a startup, this is the city that can help you create a solid future.

Connect to these vibrant bioscience and health IT communities is through the Bioscience and Health IT Leadership Council. Join peers, including McKesson, Merial, Alcon, CDC, American Cancer Society, CyroLife, CardioMEMs and others who are leading the industry with cutting-edge innovation – tackling common goals. Council subcommittees focus on branding Atlanta as a center for global health and clinical trials as well as marketing the state as the “Nation’s Health IT Capital” to attract even more companies and high-quality jobs.

20160324_090234

The idea for creating the i4GovCon Summit came from the Thunderdome Initiatives that have been floating around our community for the past year.  Knowing that Orlando and the Space Coast also have tremendous resources for aerospace and defense, we wanted to expand across the state, so we chose the “i4” to mark the location of this inaugural event.  There are similar conferences in other parts of the state, including the ITen Wired Summit covering northwest Florida communities, the First Coast Defense Expo in Jacksonville, the Space Coast Tech Expo in Melbourne and of course all the larger conferences such as I/ITSEC and SOFIC.

Our aerospace and defense community is spread across the state and to some extent it’s overshadowed by beaches, theme parks, and real estate development.  The goal of i4GovCon is to bring small business leaders from this crucial industry and supply chain together. The I-4 corridor is one of the fastest growing areas of the state.  According to a report by Enterprise Florida and Career Source Florida, “Florida’s defense industry had a $79.8 billion economic impact in Florida in 2014.”  Forward Florida reports that the space program “generates more than $19.2 billion in annual revenue.”  Commercial applications and other technology initiatives provide even more growth potential.

Instead of another DC trip, join us at i4GovCon in Tampa on March 24.  Let’s make things happen here! A fast track to meeting other like-minded professionals, the i4GovCon summit is a smaller and more focused event for those who are committed to the federal marketplace.

Veterans are the heart of the aerospace and defense community. Whether on active duty, in the reserves, or transitioning to civilian careers they deserve our support. One aspect of the summit will be to bring together some of the resources that serve this community. Florida is pushing to be the top state for veterans, to accomplish that we have work together to create better connections and networking between our companies and the veterans. We can assist on their way to a future career in our community. For example setting up a veteran friendly program.

Veterans already have what we are looking for: Leadership, discipline, and decision making skills. Let’s use this event as an opportunity to improve the veterans workforce in our communities.

Holley Calmes & Amy Ward/Gwinnett Ballet Theatre

Gwinnett Ballet Theatre has been nurturing young dancers since 1977. The first performing arts non-profit school and company in Gwinnett County, GBT has grown to become one of the most respected dance educators and performance companies in the metro Atlanta area. GBT’s “The Nutcracker” is Georgia’s second largest with 16 shows performed annually at the Infinite Energy Theatre (formerly the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center) the first three weekends in December and accompanied by the beautiful Gwinnett Ballet Theatre Orchestra.

Dr. Taushlea Green/Caring Hands Mobile Chiropractic

Caring Hands Chiropractic understands how hectic life can be. That is why they come to your home or office. Caring Hands Chiropractic provides spinal correction for adults and children as well as prenatal chiropractic care. They are dedicated to finding a better way for their patients to heal and reach their full potential. It’s their belief that everyone, no matter what age, can benefit from chiropractic care. They want to help you through chiropractic care. At Caring Hands Chiropractic, they believe that the human body has the power to heal itself. Pain isn’t something you should have to live with. They can help you get on the road to good health.

They have been featured in U.S. News and World Report, Yahoo!, Entrepreneur, and others.

Motivdeals has developed a user experience, whereby members can access tons of local deals 24/7 using their mobile devices.
