Celebrating Powerhouse Women was “on site” at the Gwinnett Chamber’s 2020 Moxie Awards at the Infinite Energy Forum. The Moxie Awards recognize women who make things happen. Built for women who are bold in business, the Gwinnett Chamber honored more than 80 finalists and seven winners at the 2020 Moxie Awards on Friday, August 28. The two-part program began with a powerhouse panel that spoke about finding the confidence within you, followed by the presentation of the Moxie Awards. The nation’s premier forum on minority supplier development, the 2019 National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) Annual Conference and Business Opportunity Fair, was held October 13-16, 2019 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA.

Over 6,000 corporate CEOs, procurement executives, and supplier diversity professionals from the top multinational companies, as well as leading Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American business owners and international organizations, participated in the 4-day event.

The event marked the launch of “Procurement Innovation Radio” on Business RadioX, hosted by Raj Verma, the VP of Procurement Services with GoProcure.

Georgia Sen. Brandon Beach

Sen. Brandon Beach was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2013. He represents District 21 which includes portions of Cherokee and Fulton counties. Senator Beach is the Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee. He is also a member of the Economic Development, Higher Education and Science and Technology committees. Sen. Beach served as the Chairman of the Public Private Partnership Committee (P3 Committee). Under his leadership, the P3 Committee was able to acquire key local transportation projects approved for Cherokee and North Fulton.

Sen. Beach was named Executive Director of the North Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) in January 2018. Previously, he was President of the North Fulton CID and President & CEO of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce. Under his leadership, the North Fulton CID has invested more than $20 million to help bring more than $100 million in new infrastructure for the District area.

In 2001, Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Sen. Beach to the board of Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA). In 2008, he was selected to chair one of GRTA’s most important committees — The Land Development Committee. In this role, Sen. Beach is responsible for leading a review of every significant development brought before the 16-county area that GRTA serves. Sen. Beach was elected to the Board of the Georgia Department of Transportation by state legislators from the 6th Congressional District in 2008.

Sen. Beach is a member of numerous community boards including the Regional Business Coalition, Grady Hospital Board of Visitors, the Greater Metro Atlanta American Heart Association, the Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, Encore Park and the Historic Roswell Convention and Visitors Bureau. Senator Beach received an undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and a Masters in Business Administration degree from Centenary College. He is also a graduate of the Regional Leadership Institute and a former member of the Alpharetta City Council and the Alpharetta Planning and Zoning Commission. He and his wife, Shuntel, have two children and have lived in Alpharetta for the past 24 years.

Ralph Moore / Ralph G. Moore & Associates

Ralph G. Moore, CPA, is president of Ralph G. Moore & Associates (RGMA) and is recognized as one of the world’s foremost thought-leaders in the area of supplier diversity and minority business development. A former accountant at Arthur Andersen & Co., Mr. Moore was Vice President of Chicago Community Ventures, a Minority Enterprise Small Business Investment Company (MESBIC) and Controller for Parker House Sausage Company before establishing RGMA in 1979.

Mr. Moore has been the lead trainer for the National Minority Supplier Development Council for over 20 years. During that period Mr. Moore has conducted over 100 seminars for the National office as well as 22 of the Regional Councils which has resulted in RGMA having trained more supplier diversity professionals than any other firm worldwide. Companies and institutions such as Walmart, The Walt Disney Company, the University of Chicago, Major League Baseball and the Federal Reserve Board of Governors have engaged the services of RGMA.

Mr. Moore is the author of the RGMA Five Levels of Supplier Diversity which has been embraced as the gold standard for benchmarking supplier diversity initiatives. His global assignments include conducting seminars in South Africa, France, United Kingdom and Canada. Mr. Moore is also a member of the Procter and Gamble and Macy’s Supplier Diversity Advisory Councils.

Mr. Moore has received numerous awards and recognitions during his distinguished career including the Ron Brown Award from the Chicago Minority Business Development Council and the prestigious National Minority Supplier Development Council Leadership Award which is the organization’s highest honor awarded to a CEO of a minority business enterprise. In recognition of a lifetime of contributions to minority business development, Mr. Moore was inducted into the Minority Business Hall of Fame at the University of Washington in April of this year.

Karmetria Burton / Delta Air Lines

Karmetria Dunham Burton is general manager, supplier diversity for Delta Air Lines. In this position she is responsible for developing a Supplier Diversity program while enhancing the processes to assist the company to achieve its vision of being an industry leader of making minority and women owned business (MWBEs) a natural and integral part of the way the company does business. Karmetria has worked in strategic sourcing at Xerox and AT&T. Before Delta, Karmetria was supplier diversity manager for IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group).

Karmetria was the 2005 recipient of the Trailblazer Award presented by the Black Business Professionals and Entrepreneurs organization and is a Who’s Who of Black Atlanta in 2010. She is a contributing writer for MBE magazine that focuses on minority business development.

Karmetria holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Southern University-Baton Rouge, La., and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska. Mrs. Burton has instructed business, procurement and diversity related courses at Kennesaw State University as well as Shorter College, Strayer University, Georgia State University and Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y.

Dorian S. Denburg/AT&T

Dorian Denburg, Finalist – Diversity Champion, is the Past President of the National Association of Women Lawyers (its 111th President), founded in 1899 to advance women in the legal profession. She is a General Attorney for AT&T with responsibility for wireless and wired Network Operations, counseling clients, federal and state litigation, legislation and regulation. Previously she held numerous positions within the AT&T (previously BellSouth) Legal Department. During that time, the company avoided $600 million in expenses due to numerous federal and state cases of first impression and first-of-its-kind legislation for which Dorian was responsible.

Dorian has spoken extensively before legal, national legislative, municipal government, trade, federal and state associations. Her involvement with the community is wide, including service in many charitable, civic, educational and professional organizations. Kali Wilson Beyah/Delta Air Lines, Inc.

Kali Wilson Beyah, Winner – Rising Star, is in-house counsel at Delta Air Lines, Inc. She joined the company in 2010 and has responsibility for a wide range of litigation matters, including class actions, complex commercial disputes, and patent infringement. Kali is also responsible for regulatory compliance counseling, aspects of ethics and compliance, and privacy matters.

Prior to joining Delta, she was a partner in the Litigation Group at Kilpatrick Townsend, formerly Kilpatrick Stockton. Kali is a graduate of Vanderbilt Law School and Florida A&M University. Kali’s community involvement includes co-chairing GABWA’s in-house section, and serving on the Go Red Executive Women’s Leadership Team and the Parent Advisory Board for Atlanta Parent Magazine. She is married to Dr. Raheem Beyah, and they have a daughter, Brie.

H. Eric Hilton/H.J. Russell & Company

Eric Hilton, Winner – Outstanding General Counsel, Solo, is Senior Vice President, Corporate Secretary and General Counsel of H. J. Russell & Company, recognized as the nation’s largest and oldest MBE construction management firm. Eric oversees legal affairs for the Company and its affiliates. Other responsibilities include oversight of Russell’s Human Resources and Risk Management functions. He is a member of the Company’s Senior Executive Team and its Employee Benefits & Investment Committee. In addition to working closely with outside counsel on a wide range of legal matters, Eric remains actively engaged in administrative matters before the EEOC and other agencies, construction dispute resolution, insurance coverage issues, commercial lease administration, contract negotiation and various transactional matters. He also serves as Company’s Chief Labor Negotiator.

Eric is active in a number of professional organizations. He is an At-Large Director for the Association of Corporate Counsel, Georgia Chapter and has served as an Advisory Board Member for the National Symposium on Diversity in the Legal Profession presented by the Philadelphia Bar Association. He is a past Advisory Board Member for the Pathways to Diversity Conference of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association. Eric has also held leadership roles in a number of service-based organizations to include the 100 Black Men of Atlanta Inc. where he previously served as chairman of its Collegiate 100 Program. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Radio Reading Service, which provides radio programming for the visually impaired and continues to serve as an on-air broadcaster for the organization. Eric also serves on the Fernbank Museum’s Corporate Leadership Council and is an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta.

Ashby L. Kent/Burr & Forman

Ashby L. Kent has practiced in Burr & Forman’s Litigation section since 2003 where she specializes in general commercial litigation. She has handled a wide variety of business disputes (tort and contract) for both plaintiffs and defendants, and her clients range from individuals and small businesses to large national financial institutions, including banks, lenders, mortgage companies and insurance companies.

Ashby represents her financial services clients in a variety of consumer finance and real estate matters, including actions for wrongful foreclosure, predatory lending, consumer protection law claims and other state and federal lender liability claims. In representing her title insurance clients, Ashby has handled numerous matters which involve evaluating and litigating bad faith claims, boundary line and easement disputes, one-half interest defects, lost or unrecorded security instruments issues, disputes over damages and loss valuations and other issues that frequently arise in the title insurance industry.

Ashby has nearly 10 years of experience litigating in Georgia’s state and federal courts, and has tried cases (bench and jury trials) in both. Additionally, she has successfully, efficiently and cost-effectively resolved numerous disputes through effective settlement negotiation and/or participation in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including mediation and arbitration.
